The crypto market witnessed one of its harshest trading sessions of 2026. Traders lost more than $563 million in leveraged long positions within 24 hours. This event marked the largest single-day liquidation since February. Panic spread quickly across major exchanges as prices collapsed without warning. Ethereum accounted for the biggest share of losses, while Bitcoin followed closely behind.

The sudden crypto liquidation wave shocked both retail traders and institutions. Many investors expected market stability after recent bullish momentum. Instead, aggressive selloffs wiped out overleveraged positions within hours. Traders watched billions disappear from the market as volatility surged across the crypto sector. Ethereum alone contributed nearly half of the total liquidations.

$ETH suffered the most damage during this market crash. Data showed nearly $244 million in Ethereum long liquidations within one day. Traders heavily bet on $ETH moving higher after weeks of bullish sentiment. However, the market reversed sharply and trapped thousands of leveraged positions.

Many traders expected Ethereum to maintain strength above key resistance zones. Instead, sellers dominated the market and pushed prices lower quickly. Liquidation engines accelerated the decline as exchanges closed underwater positions automatically. This chain reaction intensified losses across the broader crypto market.

Mike Novogratz’s Galaxy receives New York BitLicense for institutional crypto pushGalaxy Digital said Monday that New York regulators granted the company a BitLicense and money transmitter license, allowing the crypto financial services firm to expand institutional digital asset operations in one of the industry’s most tightly regulated markets.

The approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services authorizes GalaxyOne Prime NY, the company’s New York entity, to offer regulated crypto trading and custody services across the state.

Galaxy said in a press release that the move gives New York-based institutions — including hedge funds, registered investment advisors and family offices — access to its digital asset platform, which the company said manages roughly $9 billion in client assets.

“New York is home to the deepest pool of institutional capital in the country, and digital assets are no longer sitting at the edge of those allocations,” said Mike Novogratz, Galaxy's founder and CEO, in a statement.

Galaxy becomes the second company to receive a BitLicense in 2026 after bitcoin payments firm Strike secured approval from NYDFS in March.

The market reaction triggered renewed fear across risk assets, pushing BTC to its lowest level in nearly three weeks as traders rushed to reduce exposure amid growing uncertainty.

According to market data, Bitcoin briefly fell below $76,500 after failing to hold major support zones near $80,000. Analysts say the sell-off accelerated as concerns over possible escalation in the Middle East pushed oil prices higher and weakened overall market sentiment.



More than $600 million in long positions were reportedly liquidated within 24 hours as volatility increased across the crypto market. Traders are now closely watching whether Bitcoin can maintain support above the $76,000 region, since a breakdown below this level could open the door for a deeper correction toward the $70,000–$65,000 range.

Despite the bearish pressure, some institutional investors and large Bitcoin holders continue accumulating during the decline, suggesting long-term confidence has not completely disappeared. However, short-term sentiment remains fragile as geopolitical headlines continue influencing global financial markets.

The recent decline also erased much of Bitcoin’s earlier May gains that were driven by ETF optimism and expectations surrounding pro-crypto legislation in the United States. Analysts now expect volatility to remain elevated until tensions surrounding Iran and broader macroeconomic uncertainty begin to stabilize.

A member of the Ripple community has called out Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson for helping derail XRP’s growth through the ETHgate saga. In response, Hoskinson has defended himself, arguing that it is impossible he was involved in the XRP lawsuit. 

Cardano Founder Accused Of Derailing XRP’s Growth
In an X post, Ripple community member Wino opined that the Cardano founder was involved in the ETHgate, which negatively impacted XRP’s growth. The ETHgate involves allegations that the U.S. SEC favored Ethereum over XRP by declaring that the former wasn’t a security. The Commission also eventually sued Ripple, arguing that XRP was a security.

This notably impacted XRP’s growth as the altcoin stagnated for most of the lawsuit and failed to record any significant gains even during the 2021 bull run. XRP and Ethereum were notably ranked as the largest altcoins by market cap at the time, making them direct competitors and fueling speculation that the ETHgate was aimed at bringing XRP down. 

Meanwhile, in response to claims that he was involved in the ETHgate, the Cardano founder noted that he was “pushed” out of Ethereum in June 2014. He added that since then, they have spent 12 years attacking him. As such, he questioned how it was possible that he decided, years later, to coordinate with them to help Ethereum attack XRP. 

It is worth noting that the Cardano founder was one of Ethereum’s co-founders but left in June 2014 over differences with Vitalik Buterin and the other co-founders. Since then, Hoskinson has criticized Ethereum on several occasions, including once predicting that the network wouldn’t survive the next ten to fifteen years.
