Why XRP Has No Role at the Strait of Hormuz, While Bitcoin and Stablecoins I

Iran is collecting crypto payments from oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz — accepting Bitcoin and stablecoins at up to $2 million per vessel. But one major crypto asset is completely absent from this story. $XRP, despite being purpose-built for fast, cheap cross-border payments, has not been mentioned once.

Here is the honest reason why.

What Is Actually Happening at Hormuz Right Now

Since mid-March 2026, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been operating what is effectively a toll booth at one of the world’s most critical shipping chokepoints. The IRGC charges ship operators up to $2 million per vessel to transit the strait, accepting payment in either Chinese yuan, routed through Kunlun Bank via CIPS, Bitcoin, or possibly $USDT.

Under this system, oil tankers must email their cargo details to Iranian authorities. Iran then charges about $1 per barrel and tells the crew to pay the exact amount in Bitcoin within seconds to get permission to pass.

Iran made this rule official through the Strait of Hormuz Management Plan, approved on March 30–31, 2026. This is the first time a country has used crypto to collect fees at a major global shipping route.

The numbers are huge. The system could bring in up to $20 million per day from oil tankers alone, and as much as $600–$800 million per month if gas shipments are included

I was looking at  $SOL  stats and honestly… it’s kind of crazy. 25 billion transactions in one quarter. That’s not just leading — that’s completely dominating. Everyone else isn’t even close. And then you see stuff like tokenized stocks picking up, new activity, fresh volume… it feels like Solana is doing everything right behind the scenes.

But then you look at the price… and it’s just sitting there around $83 like nothing happened. That disconnect always gets me.

It reminds me of a restaurant that’s always full, people lining up outside… but somehow the owner still says “yeah, business is okay”  Like… how?

The thing is, activity doesn’t always translate into price immediately. Right now, it feels like the network is working overtime, but money isn’t fully flowing into SOL itself yet.

Momentum is still kinda “meh.” Not weak, not strong — just… there. And I’ve seen this setup before. Sometimes price lags fundamentals… until suddenly it doesn’t. So yeah — Solana looks strong on paper. But the market? Still waiting for proof

Right now, onchain trading is an infra game. The fastest server wins, not the best strategy. MMs spend on colocation, private RPCs, and custom engineering just to be a few ms faster.

Priority fees let you pay HYPE for execution priority instead. The HYPE gets burned, not pocketed by some infra provider.

Two things worth noting:

Cancels always go before executions regardless of priority paid, so MMs can pull stale quotes during fast moves without getting picked off.

Everyone uses the same public API and the same rate limits. No private endpoints, no backdoors.

Smaller MMs with better pricing but worse hardware can now compete. More MMs, tighter spreads, better fills.

The burns during high-vol events will be worth watching.
