XRP Reclaims $1.40 Mark as Price Jumps 6%, Where Is Price Heading?

$XRP, the fifth-ranked cryptocurrency asset by market capitalization, has made a significant price break in the last 24 hours. CoinMarketCap data reveals that $XRP breached the $1.40 resistance level after its volume spiked by over 10% following renewed interest in the coin.

Notably, $XRP’s trading volume climbed by 12.92% to $2.63 billion, pushing the price from a low of $1.37 past the resistance level. $XRP had stagnated below this resistance for some days now, and the current breakout has volume support that could sustain it.

If the interest from market participants lingers, $XRP could continue its upward momentum. As of this writing, $XRP exchanges hands at $1.41, which represents a 3.02% increase in the last 24 hours. The coin previously hit a peak of $1.42 before settling at the current level.

It is likely that the renewed interest, which pushed the volume up, was because of the recent partnership with Mastercard, the global payment giant.

As reported by U.Today, Ripple and Mastercard are collaborating on the Crypto Partner program, which aims to connect blockchain companies with banks and payment networks.

The move is expected to accelerate the adoption of digital assets like $XRP and Ripple’s USD (RLUSD) stablecoin.

Crypto whale loses nearly $50 million swapping USDT for AAVE
Aave Labs founder and CEO Stani Kulechov said a crypto user “attempted to buy AAVE using $50 million in USDT through the Aave interface” but only received about $36,000 worth of the token in return.

CoW Swap said the “transaction executed according to the parameters of the signed order” and that “clear price impact warnings” were given.

When someone in crypto loses millions of dollars in an instant, it's usually due to a hack or an exploit. But, on Thursday, one crypto whale appears to have lost nearly $50 million simply trying to swap USDT for AAVE.

"Earlier today, a user attempted to buy AAVE using $50 million USDT through the Aave interface. Given the unusually large size of the single order, the Aave interface, like most trading interfaces, warned the user about extraordinary slippage and required confirmation via a checkbox," Aave Labs founder and CEO Stani Kulechov said in a post to X.

Thursday's mishap could be the largest of its kind in history. Last year, a crypto trader lost considerably less when they swapped about $733,000 of USDC for roughly $19,000 in USDT as a result of a large sandwich attack.
"The user confirmed the warning on their mobile device and proceeded with the swap, accepting the high slippage, which ultimately resulted in receiving only 324 AAVE in return," Kulechov added.

Slippage is the difference between the price a trader would expect to get in a trade and the price they receive once the transaction executes. This can happen in large orders or when liquidity is weak.

Circle’s (CRCL) $USDC has overtaken Tether’s $USDT in transaction volumes for the first time since 2019, prompting Japanese investment bank Mizuho to raise its price target for the stablecoin issuer to $120 from $100, while reiterating its neutral rating on the stock.

The shares rose 1% in early trading to $115.40 and are up roughly 95% from their February lows.

Analysts Dan Dolev and Alexander Jenkins increased their Circle estimates, citing "$USDC activity trends and use cases like Polymarket or agentic commerce expectations."

Stablecoins, digital tokens backed by reserves such as fiat currency or gold, serve as key payment and settlement rails in the crypto economy, particularly for trading and cross-border transfers. The sector is dominated by Tether’s $USDT with a $143 billion market cap, followed by Circle’s $USDC at $78 billion.

According to their Friday report, $USDC has recorded about $2.2 trillion in adjusted transaction volume so far in 2026, compared with $1.3 trillion for $USDT. That gives $USDC roughly 64% share of adjusted volumes, a sharp reversal from 2019–2025 when Tether consistently led, and $USDC averaged about a 30% share.

The analysts said the shift matters because the long-term winner among stablecoins will likely be determined by real economic usage rather than market capitalization alone. Standard Chartered expects the stablecoin market cap to reach $2 trillion by the end of 2028.

Reflecting stronger $USDC activity and expanding use cases, the Mizuho analysts raised several long-term Circle forecasts. They now expect “meaningful wallets” to reach 11.7 million by 2027, up from a prior estimate of 10 million, helping lift projected $USDC market capitalization to $139 billion from $123 billion.
