Jack Dorsey’s payments company Block will cut roughly 40% of its staff in a major shake-up, a decision the co-founder attributed to the rapid acceleration of AI at the company. 

“We're already seeing that the intelligence tools we’re creating and using, paired with smaller and flatter teams, are enabling a new way of working which fundamentally changes what it means to build and run a company, and that's accelerating rapidly,” wrote Dorsey in a letter to the company, which he shared on X.

“I had two options: cut gradually over months or years as this shift plays out, or be honest about where we are and act on it now. I chose the latter. Repeated rounds of cuts are destructive to morale, to focus, and to the trust that customers and shareholders place in our ability to lead,” he added.

More than 531 billion $SHIB were moved to exchanges in less than a day, according to the most recent on-chain data. This increase significantly alters short-term market conditions and increases the likelihood of further downside volatility.

Technically speaking, $SHIB is still stuck in a recurring downward trend. The fact that price action is still trading below significant moving averages, such as the 26 EMA and the longer-term trend indicators, indicates that bearish control has not yet eroded.

Smaller consolidation structures have frequently been formed in attempts to stabilize, but each breakout attempt has been unsuccessful due to a lack of momentum and low buyer conviction.

Citigroup plans to launch institutional bitcoin custody later this year, integrating the cryptocurrency into the same custody, reporting and tax frameworks it uses for traditional assets.

The bank aims to let clients manage bitcoin alongside securities and cash under a single safekeeping account, enabling cross-margining between digital and traditional assets.

Citi’s move comes as major financial institutions, including Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan, expand digital asset offerings and adapt infrastructure for 24/7 blockchain-based markets.

Citigroup (C) plans to launch institutional bitcoin custody later this year, part of a broader push to integrate digital assets into the bank’s traditional financial infrastructure.

Nisha Surendran, who heads Citi’s digital asset custody product buildout, described the initiative in a speech at the World Strategy Forum on Thursday as an effort to “make bitcoin bankable.”

That begins with institutional-grade key management and wallet infrastructure. But, Surendran said, the ambition is broader: to bring bitcoin into the same custody, reporting and control frameworks that clients already use for traditional assets.

“We will be offering our clients a single service model across crypto, securities and money,” said Surendran, who announced these plans during the World Strategy 2026 forum. Bitcoin positions, she said, will flow into the same reporting channels and tax workflows as equities and bonds.

Clients will be able to instruct transactions via SWIFT, APIs or user interfaces, she added. “From a client perspective, all they should care about is that they instruct us. We handle all the clearing and settlement complexity, and then we report back.”

One reason Citi is moving towards bankable bitcoin is client demand.
