A new Bitcoin transfer has been made from a US government-affiliated address after a long hiatus. According to Onchain data, a wallet linked to the US government transferred approximately 0.0377 $BTC (approximately $2,510 at current prices) to a new address at 6:16 PM (UTC+3) on March 3rd.

The transfer appears to have been made from an address tracked under the label “Miguel Villanueva’s Seized Funds” (bc1qw…) to the newly created address bc1qtc7lz4090algn5zfsy0vft33745rks444djsfz. This transaction marks the first Bitcoin transfer from US government wallets since November 3, 2025.

The purpose of the transfer is not yet clear. Experts point out that such small-amount transactions are often done for address consolidation (wallet rearrangement) or as preparation for a potential sale. However, the available data does not indicate that the transaction is a direct sale.

According to data from the on-chain analytics platform Arkham, the US government is one of the world’s largest institutional Bitcoin holders. Their current portfolio allocation is as follows:

Brazilian regulators have stated that cryptocurrency exchanges will soon be required to adhere to the same accountability and security standards as traditional financial institutions.

In a February 27 ruling, the Central Bank of Brazil announced that licensed cryptocurrency exchanges in the country must begin submitting daily reports confirming they have sufficient funds to cover losses from hacker attacks or other data breaches.

The new regulations also require exchanges to adopt the same data protection and privacy standards as Brazilian commercial banks.

 "These regulations will provide greater security for investors," Denis Medina, a professor at the São Paulo Business School, told Brazilian media outlet Conexão Record News. "But they will also benefit the entire system by preventing various financial crimes related to cryptocurrencies, such as money laundering and tax evasion."

Brazil's move comes at a time when global regulators are demanding that cryptocurrency exchanges improve their security and accountability to match banking standards. Japanese financial regulators issued a similar requirement last November. South Korean regulators also took similar action last December following the hack of the Upbit exchange, which resulted in the theft of $30 million.

End of bitcoin 'HODL': public miners going all-in on AI, signaling more BTC selling

Bitcoin miners are increasingly moving away from holding bitcoin on their balance sheets by selling more $BTC to fund new identities as players in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

What started as holding onto bitcoin at all costs, or HODLing, is becoming a thing of the past for most publicly listed miners as they move into the capital-intensive but more attractive business of AI infrastructure. With tougher competition, higher energy costs and compressed prices, the profit margin for mining bitcoin, which during the 2021 bull run reached as high as 90%, has vanished, leaving miners who relied solely on that business struggling. Given that miners already have data centers ready to host AI computing machines, most have shifted their business away from bitcoin to become "AI infrastructure" companies.

This momentum is gaining more traction as prices sit roughly at $66,000, down nearly 50% from October's all-time high. Many of the top 10 public miners are selling or openly discussing sales to fund these AI expansions.

Here are some miners that are either moving away from the bitcoin business by selling more $BTC or have completely shifted into AI:

IREN (IREN) has never taken an ideological stance on holding bitcoin, focusing instead on infrastructure scale and operational execution as it leans into high-performance computing. The company currently holds 0 $BTC, underscoring its lack of a treasury-driven strategy.

TeraWulf (WULF) has maintained a pragmatic posture, avoiding a hardline treasury approach while preserving balance sheet flexibility for AI aligned growth. It holds 15 $BTC, in line with its historical peak, reflecting minimal emphasis on accumulation.
