UAE investors buy AI dip, keep crypto exposure despite conflict


United Arab Emirates investors are leaning into the artificial intelligence sell-off rather than running from it, despite the regional conflict testing the Gulf’s ambitions to become a global hub for AI and digital assets.

New eToro data shared with Cointelegraph on Wednesday show users in the UAE boosted holdings of software and AI infrastructure names whose share prices fell sharply in the first quarter, suggesting they used the downturn to “buy the dip” rather than broadly de-risk.

The pattern suggests UAE investors are staying exposed to long-term AI and digital-infrastructure themes even as the conflict raises fresh risks for data centers, logistics and cross-border technology build-outs in the Gulf. An April 13 report from Deutsche Bank said the shock is more likely to sharpen rather than derail demand for AI, cybersecurity and sovereign digital infrastructure in the region.

Josh Gilbert, market analyst at eToro, told Cointelegraph that UAE investors became more selective over where they took risk in Q1, and investor behavior was driven by long-term themes rather than a risk-off mindset.

He said the clearest signal was across AI infrastructure and software names, pointing to ServiceNow (+125%), Super Micro Computer (+65%), Adobe (+54%) and Oracle (+38%), which all saw significant increases despite market pressure.

On the crypto side, he said that Strategy Inc. remained the eighth-most-held stock, indicating continued exposure to crypto-linked equities.

Crypto pundit SMQKE has raised speculations that SWIFT may be integrating XRP for payments. He alluded to a code, which suggests that Ripple could easily move to establish connections between SWIFT-linked institutions and the XRP Ledger.

Pundit Highlights Alleged Link Between XRP and SWIFT
In an X post, SMQKE drew attention to the R3 Corda codebase, which he noted links XRP to ISO 20022 and SWIFT. He noted that any token or company aspiring to operate on the SWIFT network must comply with ISO 20022. He added that since XRP is ISO 20022-ready, and SWIFT relies on these standards, Ripple can technically establish direct connections and settlements with any SWIFT-enabled institution through the XRP Ledger.

XRP stakeholder RippleXity was the first to highlight the R3 Corda codebase, noting modules named XrpPayment, XrpSettlement, SWIFTService, and SWIFTPaymentStatusType, which point to XRP integration. However, there has been no confirmation from SWIFT regarding a potential integration.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the only known connection between XRP and SWIFT is through Ripple. SWIFT is named as one of the connectivity partners for Ripple Treasury for payments. Furthermore, the Treasury Management firm is also part of the SWIFT Certified Partner program. However, SWIFT doesn’t use XRP for its payment services.

SWIFT announced last year plans to launch its distributed ledger, signaling that it had no intention of adopting the XRP Ledger or XRP for its payment services. However, Ripple has continued to integrate XRP into the operations of other firms it acquired last year, including GTreasury, now known as Ripple Treasury. Last month, Ripple integrated XRP and RLUSD into its treasury management system, marking the first time a management system has native on-chain capabilities.

Garlinghouse opened 2026 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he framed $XRP not as a speculative asset but as neutral financial infrastructure for a world increasingly fragmented by sanctions and geopolitical tension.

He pointed to stablecoin transaction volume growing from $19 trillion in 2024 to $33 trillion in 2025, roughly 75% year-over-year growth, as evidence that the infrastructure story was already playing out in the numbers. At the same time, he made a point of noting that institutional interest from firms like BlackRock and Vanguard had not yet been fully reflected in prices.

“I don’t think institutional interest is priced into the crypto market as much as I would have expected right now,” he said.
