Can PancakeSwap Keep Its Rally After Reclaiming $1.5?

PancakeSwap ($CAKE) recorded a 13% rally over the past week, successfully reclaiming the psychological level of $1.50 after a month of sideways consolidation.

Open Interest (OI) in perpetual contracts increased by 28% in 24 hours, reflecting a strong influx of speculative capital and spot market demand.

The key resistance zone is located at $2.16, a level the asset must surpass on 3-day charts to confirm a long-term trend reversal.

The Decentralized Finance (DeFi) segment has its eyes on PancakeSwap, as it achieved an 8.2% upward surge in a single day after being trapped between $1.20 and $1.30. This market action reintroduces the $CAKE token into a historical trading range, challenging the weakness shown by buyers over the past year.

From a technical perspective, the $1.50 level has acted as a crucial support and resistance axis since July 2023. While optimism floods the sector, the asset faces a significant barrier at $2.16; historically, incursions toward $3.00 or $4.20 have triggered aggressive profit-taking that diluted existing demand.

Consequently, the recent increase in Spot CVD suggests that the current movement is backed by real buying and not just leverage. However, analysts warn that the sustainability of this rally will depend directly on Bitcoin's stability and the bulls' ability to absorb supply in the $1.60 zone.

In this sense, short-term traders consider that a pullback toward the $1.40 or $1.45 area could represent a strategic entry opportunity. Thus, the market seeks to establish a solid floor before attempting to attack higher levels that have not been consolidated in the last fifteen months.

Ethereum and Solana are currently leading developer activity in the crypto space, while developer activity in the broader ecosystem declines. This comes as prices continue to struggle with the ongoing war between the U.S. and Iran, which is sparking rising oil prices. 

Ethereum And Solana Lead Developer Activity Amid Broad Decline
Artemis data show that the Ethereum and Solana ecosystems are leading in developer activity amid declines in weekly commits and weekly active developers in crypto. In the Ethereum ecosystem, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) is seeing the most activity, with 31,620 weekly commits. 

It is worth noting that several sectors in the Ethereum ecosystem currently rank among the top seven in developer activity. Meanwhile, the Solana ecosystem comes next, with the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) Layer 1 and Layer 2 seeing the most activity, at 7,056 weekly commits. However, there has been a significant decline in the crypto ecosystem as a whole. 

Further data from Artemis shows that weekly commits have dropped from a yearly high of around 870,900 in March last year to as low as 217,500 in February. Notably, weekly commits crashed around the time of the crypto market’s infamous ‘October 10’ crash, which led to the largest liquidation event in crypto history. 
Similarly, the weekly active developers have also declined from a yearly high of 10,600 in May last year to as low as 4,000. This metric has been declining since the October 10 crypto market crash, suggesting that current price action is affecting developer sentiment. Ethereum and Solana have also seen declines in their weekly commits and developer activity despite leading in these metrics.

US-based spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded their sixth day of inflows on Monday as Bitcoin rose over 12% over the period, marking the longest streak of fresh capital into the ETFs since October last year. Data from Farside Investors shows Bitcoin ETFs raked in $199.4 million in net inflows on Monday. The bitcoin $BTC$73,886.45 price has remained relatively unscathed during the two‑week war with Iran. What's more impressive is that its key volatility metrics have also held steady, a sign that crypto traders are less fearful than those in traditional markets such as equities, oil and bonds.

Tensions between Iran, the U.S., and Israel broke into open conflict on Feb. 28, damaging oil infrastructure across the Middle East and disrupting tanker flows. Analysts warned that the turmoil could trigger massive price volatility and fear-driven hedging across asset classes.

So far, they have been partially wrong.

Bitcoin’s 30-day implied volatility index, BVIV, has remained remarkably steady, holding between 55% and 60%, according to TradingView data. Implied volatility reflects the demand for options, so the stability suggests traders have not been aggressively buying put options, which hedge against price declines.

Traders in traditional markets, however, have freaked out and been chasing those options, as evidenced by spikes in their respective volatility indexes.

The equities gauge, the VIX — which measures the expected 30-day volatility of the S&P 500 based on options prices — averaged just above 20% before the conflict. It jumped to over 32% on March 6 and remained elevated near 26% on Monday.

Cboe’s crude oil volatility index, OVX, surged to more than 100% from 64%. MOVE, which tracks volatility in U.S. Treasury notes, rose to 85% from 73%, hitting a high of 95% at one point, reflecting broad-based market uncertainty. The volatility index for gold, traditionally seen as a haven during troubled times, held steady above 30%.
