The crypto market has stabilized, with bitcoin BTC$62,791.65 rising nearly 7% in the week ended July 5, its best performance since March.

The impetus comes from inflation breakevens, which measure the market's expectations of future price increases by comparing regular government bonds to inflation-protected ones. The two-year breakeven has dropped below 2% (check the Daily Signal), which is the Fed's target for inflation. The longer-term breakevens have also dropped sharply in recent weeks.

Notably, both the two-year breakeven rate and WTI oil prices, which influence inflation, have slipped to levels last seen before the onset of the Iran war in late February.

This is leading some observers to question inflation concerns, Fed interest-rate-hike bets and the dollar's strength. Bullish positioning is lopsided and vulnerable to sudden unwinding that could put the Dollar Index (DXY) under pressure. Such a snap adjustment could happen on July 14, when the U.S. reports the consumer price index for June.

Larchevêque’s framing isn’t new to longtime Bitcoin observers, but it lands differently now as macroeconomic fault lines deepen. When he says Bitcoin has little value in a perfect world because nobody needs it, he touches a raw nerve: the asset’s ultimate utility case is tied to social unraveling. In a stable society with trusted banking and low inflation, holding a permissionless digital bearer asset looks like a niche hobby. But for citizens in Iran, Lebanon, or Argentina, and increasingly for pockets of Western populations that have lost faith in monetary policy, that utility is immediate and personal.

Coinbase AI draws backlash after pushing World Cup result before kickoff


Coinbase (COIN) sent users a false “breaking news” alert saying Norway's soccer team beat Brazil 3-2 in a World Cup knockout match before the game had even started.

The alert said Erling Haaland scored twice in the match at MetLife Stadium. Coinbase’s own prediction-market page still listed the game as weather-delayed at the time.

Users posted screenshots of the notification on X on Sunday. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong replied to one saying he was looking into it with the team. According to one post, the alert was sent at 10:26 a.m. ET. The match didn't start until 4 p.m.

Max Branzburg, the company's head of consumer & business products, later clarified that the incorrect story was fixed and the firm “made some updates to avoid these types of inaccuracies in the future.”

“It’s awesome to see the power of AI-enabled 24/7 insights for trading, but obviously still need to tune it to address these types of issues,” Branzburg wrote on X.

The actual match did see Norway beat Brazil, and Haaland scored twice. The final score was 2-1.

The error landed as Coinbase pushes deeper into prediction markets. The company rolled out prediction markets to U.S. users in January through Kalshi, offering contracts tied to sports, elections, economic data and other real-world events.

Coinbase has framed the product as part of a broader effort to become an “everything exchange.” The company also added stock options, pre-IPO markets and an AI adviser as it tries to fold more financial activity into one app.

CoinDesk reached out to Coinbase but hadn’t heard back by publication time.

Cardano ADA is trading modestly lower on Monday as the market pauses following last week's impressive 31% rally.

The cryptocurrency is currently finding support around $0.186, where the 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) is helping stabilize prices after the recent surge.

Although buyers have taken a breather, derivatives data and technical indicators suggest the broader recovery remains intact as long as ADA continues to hold above this critical support zone.

Futures market reflects growing investor interest

Activity in Cardano's derivatives market points to increasing participation from traders.

According to CoinGlass data, ADA futures Open Interest (OI) climbed to approximately US$515 million (approx. $664.4 million) on Sunday, marking its highest level since the end of May before easing slightly to around US$459 million (approx. $592.2 million) on Monday.

Rising open interest typically indicates that fresh capital is entering the market, reinforcing expectations that traders continue positioning for additional price movement.
