Crypto exchange Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) has introduced pre-IPO perpetual futures (perps) tied to OpenAI and Anthropic, offering eligible non-U.S. customers a way to trade exposure to two of the most closely watched private artificial intelligence (AI) companies. The launch expands Coinbase International Exchange’s lineup of perpetual products into private-market valuation trading.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong highlighted the challenges retail investors face when trying to access private companies before public listings. OpenAI and Anthropic remain privately held, limiting traditional investment opportunities for most market participants.

“Two of the biggest, most hyped private companies are due to go public soon (OpenAI and Anthropic). But because they’re private, regular people can’t get exposure. We launched pre-IPO perps for both these companies on Coinbase (non-US customers).”

Platform access is restricted to eligible users outside the United States through Coinbase International Exchange. The contracts allow traders to take long or short positions while using the exchange’s existing perpetual futures infrastructure, including margin requirements, funding mechanisms, and risk controls.

Ripple Has Burned $539M RLUSD in Last 30 Days, with 74% Destroyed on Ethereum
On-chain data shows that Ripple has burned up to $539 million worth of RLUSD in the past 30 days, with most of these burns occurring on the Ethereum network.

The Ripple stablecoin, RLUSD, has continued to record impressive growth since its launch in December 2024. Interestingly, recent developments suggest Ripple may be pivoting more toward the XRP Ledger while reducing the stablecoin’s supply on Ethereum.
According to data sourced by a community-driven RLUSD tracker developed by validator Vet, Ripple has burned $539 million in RLUSD since May 23, 2026, with burns outpacing mints by more than $129 million within this period.
Notably, most of these burns occurred from early to mid-June immediately after a significant $127 million mint on June 1. 

Specifically, from June 2, Ripple went on an RLUSD burning spree that lasted until June 12, representing nine consecutive days of intraday burns, the longest intraday burn streak since the December 2024 launch. It bears mentioning that these days also saw mints, but burns overshadowed them, leading to negative supply changes.

During this period, Ripple burned $226 million worth of RLUSD tokens, with the largest single-day incineration involving $75.1 million on June 3. This day saw a net supply change of -$58.3 million for RLUSD, as the payments company minted $16.8 million. The second-largest single-day burn involved $67.1 million on June 4.

After the June 2 to 12 spree, intraday activities alternated between net positive and negative supply changes. Before now, Ripple had already burned 196.6 million RLUSD from May 27 to 29. These large transactions contributed to the $539.3 million figure for the past month.

British pound stablecoins capped to $53B ceiling as Bank of England sets out stablecoin rules

The Bank of England has removed the biggest usability objection from its sterling stablecoin plan, but it has kept a ceiling on how large any single systemic pound token can become.

In a June 22 policy statement and draft Code of Practice, the central bank removed proposed holding limits for individuals and businesses, raised the share of backing assets that may be held in interest-bearing securities, and replaced wallet-level caps with a temporary £40 billion issuance guardrail for each systemic sterling stablecoin product.

That turns the UK debate to scaling. A token that no longer has to police ordinary business balances is more plausible as a payments infrastructure, but a successful issuer would still be rationed before it reaches the market cap of the largest dollar tokens.

The result is a different rationing model.

The UK is paving the way for regulated pound tokens to operate from 2027, while reserving the right to slow their growth until the Bank is satisfied that stablecoins will not drain deposits from the banking system quickly enough to undermine access to credit.

From wallet caps to a product ceiling

The Bank's draft rules consultation closes on Sept. 22, 2026, with the Code of Practice intended to be finalized by the end of the year. Regulated stablecoins are expected to operate in the UK from 2027.

Under the November 2025 proposal, the Bank had considered temporary per-coin holding limits of £20,000 for individuals and £10 million for businesses.

It also proposed a reserve mix that would have allowed up to 60% of backing assets to be in short-term UK government debt and required at least 40% to be in unremunerated Bank deposits.

The new policy statement says those user-level limits will not be implemented. Instead, each systemic stablecoin product will initially be subject to a £40 billion issuance maximum

Synthetix Governance Votes to Retire sUSD, Pay Holders in Vested SNX

Synthetix governance has moved to retire sUSD, proposing to pay all holders back at face value in vested $SNX under SIP-423, introduced June 12. The stablecoin now trades at roughly $0.25 against its $1.00 target, per CoinGecko and DefiLlama.

Synthetix founder Kain Warwick and core contributor Benjamin Celermajer authored the proposal. Under SIP-423, the sUSD contract would be frozen and deprecated. Each eligible sUSD holder would receive four $SNX tokens per sUSD, at a conversion that values $SNX at $0.25 and sUSD at its intended $1.00 face value. The $SNX tokens carry a one-year lock followed by a one-year linear vest from the freeze date. The claim window opens approximately one year after the freeze.

Four Components

SIP-423 has four parts. First, a holder snapshot: an audit of all sUSD balances on Ethereum and Optimism at a governance-defined cutoff block. Second, the sUSD retirement itself. Third, a restructure of the existing Debt Jubilee under SIP-420, which would close the 420 Pool, remove sUSD staking ratio requirements, and give existing debt participants the choice of a four-year lock with a one-year vest, or an early exit by repaying their remaining debt in full. The fourth component, $SNX staking reform, is deferred to a separate build.

A contingent $USDT path is included: if Synthetix generates more than $10 million in protocol revenue within the two-year lock-up period, 25% of that revenue can be distributed as $USDT to legacy sUSD holders who prefer cash over $SNX. Both the $10 million threshold and the 25% share are adjustable by the Spartan Council via SCCP

Ethereum recruits top researchers as Joe Lubin backs Ethlabs

Ethereum has added a new independent research organization backed by Joe Lubin, Bitmine, and Sharplink, bringing together five former Ethereum Foundation researchers.

According to an announcement from Ethlabs, the newly launched nonprofit research group has secured support from Bitmine, Sharplink, Anchorage, Octant, SNZ, and other Ethereum ecosystem participants.

The organization did not disclose how much funding it has received.

Founded by former senior Ethereum Foundation researchers Ansgar Dietrichs, Barnabé Monnot, Caspar Schwarz Schilling, Josh Rudolf, and Julian Ma, Ethlabs has been created as an independent institution focused on technical research for the Ethereum network. The group said its work will cover areas including settlement speed, network capacity, native asset issuance, cross-chain interoperability and Ethereum’s monetary design.

The launch comes as Ethereum’s development ecosystem increasingly relies on independent organizations alongside the Ethereum Foundation.

Ethlabs said the structure gives researchers a dedicated home with long-term funding while allowing them to continue working on core protocol issues.

Ethlabs focuses on infrastructure needed by institutions

Among its founding members are researchers who have previously contributed to Ethereum’s work on scaling, finality, data availability, protocol economics, and virtual machine development.

In a statement accompanying the launch, executive director Ansgar Dietrichs said Ethlabs was established to advance Ethereum’s core technology and support infrastructure used by institutions, developers and autonomous AI systems.
