Bitcoin has continued to slide over the months since Strategy's bitcoin-funding vehicle, Strategy's preferred equity unit "Stretch" (STRC), launched in late July 2025. The move has put fresh scrutiny on how STRC's structure is performing-and, more importantly, what happens when its market price drifts far below the $100 "liquidation preference" around which the instrument was designed to operate.

STRC has recently traded at a persistent discount. On Thursday, the unit reportedly fell to a record low of $82.53 and closed at $88.59 -well below the $100 par level. That gap has reignited calls from prominent critics, even as other analysts argue the drawdown reflects leverage dynamics rather than a fundamental collapse.

Prediction Markets Hit a Record $10.8 Billion in Weekly Trading Volume

Data from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz’s crypto division, A16z crypto, show prediction market trading volume reached a record $10.8 billion during the week ending June 15, 2026, marking the first time weekly activity exceeded the $10 billion threshold.

The milestone followed a year of rapid expansion across leading platforms, with total volume more than doubling from levels recorded earlier this spring.

A16z crypto stated on June 19 in a post on X:

“ Prediction markets hit a record $10.8 billion in weekly trading volume in the week ending June 15 — their biggest week ever.”

SpaceX IPO, Sports Finals, and Global Events Drive Prediction Market Surge

Several major events gave traders a wide set of contracts to price during the record week. Activity centered on the SpaceX IPO, a U.S.-Iran peace deal, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Final, and the early stages of the World Cup, creating simultaneous demand across finance, geopolitics, and sports markets.

A16z explained:

“Several big events coincided that contributed to the all-time high: the SpaceX IPO, a U.S.-Iran peace deal, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup, and the opening of the World Cup, among them.”

The SpaceX listing was one of the key drivers of activity. Its debut at a $2.1 trillion valuation drew significant interest from traders, who turned to prediction contracts to assess expectations for the company’s future developments.

Meanwhile, the sports calendar delivered its own drama. Championship showdowns in basketball and hockey, combined with the World Cup’s opening stage, attracted a broad wave of traders seeking exposure to some of the year’s most closely watched events.

Ki Young Ju, founder of the cryptocurrency analysis platform CryptoQuant, made noteworthy assessments regarding the Bitcoin market. In a statement made on social media, Ju argued that the biggest risk for Bitcoin is not sudden price crashes, but rather prolonged sideways movement and decreasing investor interest.

According to Ki Young Ju, the biggest challenge that Strategy, and its founder and chairman Michael Saylor in particular, might face could be a period of stagnation lasting for years, rather than sharp price drops.

The analyst noted that large pullbacks can be tolerated in scenarios where the market expects a new upward trend in the future. However, he stated that investor interest could decrease if Bitcoin trades in a narrow price range for an extended period and the bear market becomes prolonged.

It has been suggested that this situation could weaken demand for Bitcoin, reduce the Bitcoin-linked premium on Strategy shares, and put pressure on the company’s capital raising mechanism.

Ju emphasized that Michael Saylor’s primary task was not simply to buy more Bitcoin, but also to create a new narrative and investment thesis that would keep the market’s faith in Bitcoin alive.

The CryptoQuant founder also stated that while Bitcoin is often described as “digital gold,” its price movements often more closely resemble those of technology stocks. Ju, while maintaining his belief in Bitcoin’s long-term bullish potential, added that the market needs a new narrative to unite investors under a shared vision in order to regain momentum.
