RippleX Engineer Says the Market Stopped Talking Lawsuits and Started Talking XRP

Ayo Akinyele, Head of Engineering at RippleX, says the crypto market has moved past the legal noise that once overshadowed XRP and is now paying attention to what the technology can actually do.

“I think the market is very much shifting back to technology because the use cases are real,” Akinyele said in a recent interview on the Thinking Crypto Podcast.

He explained that years of SEC headlines pulled focus away from institutional interest that was quietly building underneath. “What has happened over the last few years is that the SEC headlines sort of distracted people from the institutional demand that was kind of an undercurrent,” he said. “And I think because that’s out of the way, those use cases are now coming to fruition.”

According to Akinyele, institutions are gravitating toward the XRP Ledger specifically because it is decentralized and built around low-friction financial primitives that are harder to access elsewhere. He pointed to cheap settlement, low fees, and fast, predictable execution times as the core advantages drawing real-world use cases on-chain.

Akinyele also addressed a recent collaboration involving Ripple, JPMorgan, Mastercard, and Ondo Finance, where tokenized treasuries were used to fund cross-border transactions on the XRP Ledger.

“I think because of Ripple’s reputation as a financial institutional home of sorts, I think it was a natural progression of the things that Ripple had been invested in,” he said. He described the pilot as built around XRPL’s low-friction approach to tokenizing assets, with the real value coming once those assets need to move.

Cardano's

bearish pressure persists amid weak derivatives and on-chain dataCardano ($ADA) continued its downward trajectory on Friday, trading below $0.165 and posting losses of more than 2% in the last 24 hours.

The cryptocurrency remains under pressure, as weakening derivatives activity and negative on-chain indicators suggest further downside in the near term.

Bearish derivatives data reflect growing market caution

Market sentiment surrounding Cardano remains fragile, with derivatives metrics highlighting a growing bearish bias among traders.

According to CoinGlass data, $ADA's long-to-short ratio fell to 0.96 on Friday, approaching its lowest level in over a month.

A ratio below 1 indicates that short positions outweigh long positions, suggesting that a majority of traders are positioning for additional price declines.

Further reinforcing the negative outlook, Cardano's futures Open Interest (OI) declined to $348 million.

Although Ol experienced a modest recovery in mid-June, it has generally trended lower since mid-May.

Former Ethereum Contributor Warns of Funding Crisis Ahead

A former Ethereum Foundation contributor has warned that Ethereum’s development ecosystem could face a funding crunch within the next three to nine months. This raises concerns about the network’s ability to continue delivering major upgrades and long-term innovation.

Trent VanEpps, who worked at the Ethereum Foundation from 2021 to 2026, said Ethereum may be heading toward a “slow-burning funding crisis.” He explained that this will happen as key funding sources begin to dry up. 

According to him, the issue goes beyond a temporary budget gap. It points to deeper structural challenges around how Ethereum funds and supports its core contributors.

Why Funding Is Becoming a Concern
VanEpps estimates that Ethereum’s core development ecosystem requires roughly $30 million per year to support client teams, researchers, coordinators, and protocol developers. He argued that this is a relatively small cost considering the scale of the network. Furthermore, the resources these teams maintain are significant.

However, two major changes are putting pressure on funding.

First, the Ethereum Foundation has been reducing its spending. In 2025, the Foundation introduced a treasury plan aimed at lowering annual spending from 15% to around 5% by 2030. This is meant to preserve its remaining funds.

Second, Ethereum’s Client Incentive Program (CIP), a four-year initiative that helped fund client teams through staking rewards, expired in April 2026. So far, no replacement program has been announced.

According to VanEpps, these changes could leave important development teams without stable funding in the coming months.

A major part of the discussion revolves around the Ethereum Foundation’s long-standing philosophy called “Subtraction.”
