When you buy shares of a Bitcoin ETF, you are buying into a fund, and the fund handles the Bitcoin, whether by holding it directly or through related instruments, so that the value of your shares moves with the price of Bitcoin while the fund manages the complexity behind the scenes.

Bitcoin’s drop below $63,000 shows traders are looking past Hormuz relief and pricing the Fed’s hawkish rate outlook back into risk assets.

Bitcoin fell about 2% to $63,030 after briefly dropping to $62,263 as oil slid and Hormuz shipping resumed.

Bitcoin traded at $63,030 on June 18, down about 2% on the day, after whipsawing from an intraday high of $64,731 to a low of $62,263 while oil was falling and ships were moving through the Strait of Hormuz for the first time in weeks.

Today, June 19, it then continued to experience weak price performance, approaching $62,450 as of press time.

The US-Iran Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed by President Donald Trump and sent to Congress on June 18, commits Iran to ensuring safe commercial passage through the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days, while the US fully ends its naval blockade on Iranian ports within 30 days.

Three Saudi-flagged supertankers carrying 6 million barrels of crude sailed through the Strait hours after Trump signed the deal, with vessels broadcasting their positions again after weeks of concealing voyages.

Brent touched its lowest level since before the war began on Feb. 28, settling near $79.85, while WTI settled at $76.60. The Strait handles roughly 20% of global oil supply, and for the first time since the conflict began, that supply lane was open.

Lower oil reduces the risk of another energy-driven inflation impulse, which in a standard macro sequence eases inflation expectations, puts downward pressure on yields, and makes risk assets with long duration more attractive to rate-sensitive positioning.

In the past 24 to 48 hours, crypto exchange Deribit saw heavy buying of short- and near-dated put options, spanning expirations from June 22 to July 31, according to data tracked by Laevitas. Notable flows included:

June 22 $61,500 puts (337 contracts)

July 3 $60,000 puts (116 contracts) and $55,000 puts (380 contracts)

July 10 $55,000 puts (540 contracts)

July 31 $52,000 puts (314 contracts)

A put option is likely an insurance against market swoons. A put buyer locks in the right to sell bitcoin at a specific strike price in the future. If the price drops below that strike price, the buyer can still sell at the predetermined higher price, thus pocketing the difference as profit. On Deribit, one options contract represents on $BTC.

The surge in these out-of-the-money puts reflects a distinctly bearish sentiment and understandably so, as several catalysts are weighing on the market.

A hawkish Federal Reserve is bolstering the U.S. dollar, bitcoin ETFs have seen persistent outflows, and Strategy, the largest publicly listed bitcoin holder, faces mounting pressure.

Strategy's preferred stock, STRC, has plunged to record lows well below its $100 par value, complicating the company’s aggressive bitcoin accumulation strategy.

Arca CIO Jeff Dorman highlighted the precarious situation:"Either sell an enormous amount of $BTC and MSTR to help bring $STRC back up near par, and at least buy yourself some time, or continue to watch every part of your cap structure melt because of the uncertainty you've created," he said on X.

As of writing, $BTC changed hands near $62,400, down 0.8% since midnight UTC hours, according to CoinDesk data.
