BlackRock's bond chief says Bitcoin goes "considerably higher", just not yet all-in

BlackRock's Chief Investment Officer of Global Fixed Income and Chairman of the firm-wide BlackRock Investment Council, is standing by Bitcoin through the current downturn, though he is not rushing to add exposure. Speaking on Bloomberg on June 16, Rieder was asked directly whether Bitcoin, which had sold off roughly 50% from its peak, represented a buying opportunity. He answered that he thinks it is "ultimately going considerably higher," attributing the near-term choppiness to technical market conditions.

Moderate Exposure, Competing Priorities

Rieder added that the fund is keeping Bitcoin at a "pretty moderate exposure," citing competing opportunities in technology and emerging market debt as reasons for not increasing the allocation. The candid admission underlines a dynamic playing out across institutional portfolios: long-term conviction in $BTC, short-term capital diverted elsewhere.

Nigeria leads Ripple’s RLUSD bet: Are cross-border payments finally taking off?
In yet another step in its expansion, Ripple [XRP] announced a strategic partnership with Flutterwave, one of the biggest payment companies located in Nigeria. With the help of Ripple, Flutterwave is advancing its push into blockchain-based payments with this new partnership.

That said, the investment, which was a component of Flutterwave’s Series E round, valued the company at $3.2 billion. 

With this partnership, Ripple would also integrate its global payment network, the XRP Ledger (XRPL), and stablecoin RLUSD into Flutterwave’s infrastructure. All in all, this agreement marks a significant change in the way that funds could enter and exit Nigeria.

Although Flutterwave currently handles payments for millions of consumers and businesses throughout the continent, the majority of international transactions still go through conventional banking channels.

This includes multiple intermediaries, correspondent banks, currency conversions, and settlement times that take several days.

By strategically investing in and integrating technology, Ripple aims to replace a large portion of that complexity with stablecoin-based blockchain infrastructure.

Needless to say, the implications are wider for Africa, and especially for Nigeria. For context, the continent has long struggled with issues like high remittance costs. Along with restricted access to international banking systems and a lack of foreign exchange.

Bitcoin's rally and HYPE's record run mask a market still waiting for real conviction, analysts say

Separately, Strive's chief investment officer had said that prolonged bitcoin weakness could drive consolidation among corporate treasury firms, a dynamic now drawing fresh scrutiny as several analysts question whether the current bounce reflects durable demand.


The move came alongside continued institutional interest in Hyperliquid, with spot HYPE exchange-traded funds nearing $900 million in cumulative trading volume as an early demand signal.

HYPE's push past $76 extends a multi-month climb tied to Hyperliquid's buyback mechanics, where the bulk of platform fees flow into an Assistance Fund that systematically purchases the token on the open market. Previously, Citrini Research called Hyperliquid a "compelling" investment due to that buyback strategy and ETF demand.
