Man Alleges Wife Stole $172 Million in Bitcoin After 'Covertly Recording' Him
The wife of a UK resident is alleged to have stolen around $172 million in Bitcoin from her husband, according to court documents filed in the UK’s High Court of Justice last week.

The individual, Ping Fai Yuen, had more than 2,323 Bitcoin securely stored on his Trezor hardware wallet in 2023. But on August 2 of that year, unbeknownst to Ping, 2,323 Bitcoin was transferred from his wallet, and after multiple transactions, was dispersed across 71 different Bitcoin addresses. No transactions have taken place since December 21, 2023.

Warned by his daughter that July that his now-estranged wife, Fun Yung Li, was trying to take his Bitcoin, Ping installed audio equipment in his residence. That led to recordings which allegedly implicate Fun, who potentially with the help of her sister, a second named defendant, Lai Yung Li, secretly recorded him and stole his seed phrase.

“A recording of July 29, 2023 has been described on behalf of [Ping Fai Yuen] as capturing [Fun Yung Li] discussing CCTV which has been set up in the house, where the claimant sat and hid the password, using the wallet,” the court documents say. The filing further alleges that the wife was "covertly recording" him in an effort to gain access to his Bitcoin holdings.
Excerpts from the audio recordings contain phrases like “The Bitcoin has transferred to me” and “take all of it,” according to the filing.

Upon discovering his Bitcoin had moved, Ping confronted his wife and assaulted her, leading to his arrest and later guilty plea on counts of “assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two offenses of common assault.”

He also reported the theft of his Bitcoin to the police, which led to the arrest of Fun in 2023. Police found and seized 10 crypto cold wallets, at least three with names attributable to Ping, but ultimately released Fun after she provided a no comment interview and made bail.

A Delaware court had already ordered 71 Bitcoin frozen over a customer fund dispute before crypto lender BlockFills formally declared it could no longer operate.

That freeze — tied to a legal battle with creditors over how client money was handled — cast a shadow over the company well before it filed for Chapter 11 protection this week.

Customers Locked Out As Withdrawals Halt
BlockFills stopped letting customers move their money last month. The company pointed to a sharp Bitcoin selloff — the coin dropped from above $97,000 to below $64,000 between mid-January and early February — as the reason it needed to protect both itself and its clients.

Deposits and withdrawals went dark. No timeline for restoration was given.

Now the company and three related entities, all operating under parent firm Reliz LTD, have taken their case to federal bankruptcy court in Delaware.

The filing seeks a Chapter 11 restructuring, which allows a company to keep running while it works out a repayment plan with the people it owes money to.

In a statement, BlockFills said the decision came after talks with investors, clients, and creditors. The company said it believes the court process will give it the time and structure needed to stabilize operations, find additional sources of cash, and look at possible deals with outside parties.

Officials said the goal is a consensual restructuring — meaning one that creditors agree to rather than one forced on them by a judge.

On-chain data has begun reflecting improving network efficiency as the NVT ratio dropped sharply. 

The metric stood near 402.52 at press time, representing a 23.95% decline over the last 24 hours. Such a drop suggests that transaction activity across the XRP Ledger has increased relative to its market valuation.

2025 Full Year and Fourth Quarter Financial and Operational Highlights

Financially, the company achieved total revenue of $688.1 million for the full year, with fourth-quarter revenue of $179.5 million. Bitcoin mining has become the primary revenue source, contributing $675.5 million for the full year and $172.4 million in the fourth quarter. Adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) for the full year was $24.5 million, but fourth-quarter adjusted EBITDA was negative $156.3 million due to multiple factors.

 Operationally, the company mined a total of 6,594.6 Bitcoins throughout the year, averaging approximately 18.07 Bitcoins per day; of which 1,718.3 Bitcoins were mined in the fourth quarter, averaging approximately 18.68 Bitcoins per day. In terms of costs, the average mining cost per Bitcoin for the year (excluding mining machine depreciation) was US$79,707, and US$97,272 if all costs are included; the corresponding costs for the fourth quarter were US$84,552 and US$106,251 respectively. As of the end of 2025, the company has cumulatively mined 7,528.4 Bitcoins since entering the mining business.

Strategically, the company has terminated its ADR (American Depositary Receipt) program and switched to a direct listing on the NYSE. This move will help improve transparency and align with its current strategic direction, while also potentially expanding its investor base in the long term.
