Solv Protocol drops LayerZero in favor of Chainlink for $700 million tokenized bitcoinBitcoin-centric DeFi platform Solv Protocol announced that it will migrate to Chainlink from LayerZero, following a major security incident involving the latter.

In a Thursday post, Solv Protocol wrote it will phase out LayerZero's bridging support for SolvBTC and xSolvBTC with Corn, Berachain, Rootstock, and TAC. Instead, Solv designated Chainlink's CCIP as its official cross-chain infrastructure solution for over $700 million in assets.

"In light of recent industry events, Solv reviewed its existing bridges and found that CCIP provided the strongest security assurances through its secure-by-default architecture, native risk controls, and proactive monitoring," the team wrote in the post.

Solv added that CCIP is widely considered the "gold standard" for decentralized interoperability and is officially recognized by the White House as a critical digital asset infrastructure.

SBI Holdings has started formal talks with Bitbank over a capital and business alliance. The planned transaction would make Bitbank a consolidated subsidiary of SBI.

The company said it plans to acquire shares after due diligence and internal approval. Details on timing, structure, and acquisition method will be discussed later.

The move comes soon after SBI Group absorbed Bitpoint Japan through a merger with SBI VC Trade in April 2026. The latest talks show SBI is moving quickly to expand its crypto exchange business.

Japan is also reviewing how crypto assets fit under the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act. That process may bring tighter rules for exchanges and crypto investment products.

Bitbank’s IPO path comes into focus

Bitbank had previously prepared for a possible Tokyo Stock Exchange listing by mid-2025. The company had also raised about 7 billion yen through a capital and business alliance with Mixi in 2021.

Mixi became a major shareholder with a 26.2% stake. SBI’s proposal may now draw attention to Bitbank’s listing plans and future ownership structure.

Bitbank has also moved further into crypto-linked payments. The exchange launched the “EPOS Crypto Card for Bitbank” with EPOS Card, the fintech arm of Marui Group.

The card allows users to settle monthly credit card bills using bitcoin held on Bitbank. It also offers 0.5% cashback in bitcoin, ether, or Aster.

Bitbank said the card is the first in Japan to allow credit card bills to be settled directly from crypto exchange balances. The service may later add more crypto payment options.

The possible SBI deal would combine Bitbank’s exchange brand and payments push with SBI’s wider financial network. Bitbank has also reported zero hacking incidents since launch, which may support its appeal to a larger financial group.

Coinbax wins $20,000 PitchFest prize at Consensus Miami for stablecoin compliance

MIAMI – Coinbax won the $20,000 grand prize at Consensus Miami’s PitchFest after pitching a system designed to help banks and financial firms manage compliance for stablecoin payments.

The company, founded by former Jack Henry executive Peter Glyman, builds programmable escrow infrastructure that adds controls to wallet-to-wallet crypto transactions. The software is meant to reduce the risks financial institutions face when moving funds onchain.

“Banks want to use stablecoins for payments, but they need to get their compliance people comfortable with the idea of moving money onchain,” Glyman said during his presentation.

He described a future where “wallet addresses [are] associated with every bank account,” with transactions moving between banks, fintech firms and self-custody wallets. In that environment, he argued, compliance checks need to happen directly onchain rather than only through traditional banking intermediaries.

Coinbax uses smart contracts to hold funds in escrow while third-party services verify identity, sanctions screening and transaction risk. Funds settle only after conditions are met.

“We provide a trust layer,” Glyman said. “We provide programmable escrow that adds the control layer to these payments.”

The startup launched in October, closed a seed round in December and is already live on Base mainnet, according to Glyman. He said the company is working with banks, custody firms and wallet providers on pilot programs.

Second place went to Tashi, a decentralized infrastructure project focused on coordinating and managing AI systems across distributed networks.

Cryptocurrency analytics company CryptoQuant stated that while claims of Bitcoin hitting a bottom are becoming increasingly common, on-chain data has not yet confirmed this. According to the company’s analysis, in the current scenario where Bitcoin is trading around $80,870, the cost zones of losing investors are creating significant resistance to the price.

The analysis indicated that the realized cost prices of three different investor cohorts were above the current market price. Accordingly, investors who held Bitcoin for 3 to 6 months had a realized cost price of $88,880, while the group of investors who held it for 12 to 18 months had a cost level of $93,450. The highest supply was found in the 6- to 12-month investor group, at $111,850. CryptoQuant stated that each of these levels represents a “break-even point” for investors who have incurred losses.

Block Inc rises 8% as Q1 gives ‘earnings surprise’ despite Bitcoin dip
Jack Dorsey’s payments firm Block rose 7.9% in after-hours trading as its Q1 earnings surpassed analyst estimates, despite posting its first loss in three years.

Block’s Q1 earnings came in at 85 cents per share, beating the Zacks consensus estimate of 68 cents per share. Investors responded positively, driving Block shares to $75.70 after hours, Google Finance data shows.

“This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of +25.68%,” said Zacks Equity Research on Thursday. “Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates two times.”

Expanding Bitcoin’s use into the payments space has been a key area of focus for Dorsey, who previously argued that widespread payment adoption is needed to fulfill Satoshi Nakamoto’s original vision of Bitcoin as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. In late April, Block noted that over 800,000 US-based merchants have enabled Bitcoin transactions for everyday purchases.

Block reports first quarterly loss in three years

The earnings beat came despite Block reporting its first quarterly loss since 2023, driven by a 23.8% drop in the price of Bitcoin over the three-month period.

Q1 net loss was $309 million, which included a $172.8 million bitcoin remeasurement loss on the 8,883 Bitcoin it held as of March 31.

Bitcoin revenue from Cash App and other Block products fell to $1.8 billion from $2.33 billion a year ago.

Block attributed the fall to “Bitcoin trading dynamics” and a “strategic decision to reduce the fee” charged on certain Bitcoin transactions on Cash App.

XRP Ledger Processes First Near Real-Time Cross-Border Redemption of Tokenized U.S. Treasuries
XRP Ledger has just processed one of its most significant institutional transactions yet, involving tokenized U.S. Treasuries.


On X, validator Vet disclosed that he examined activity tied to Ondo Finance on the XRP Ledger. During this review, he discovered two recent Ripple transactions that redeemed Ondo Short-Term U.S. Government Treasuries (OUSG) as part of a settlement flow involving Mastercard and JPMorgan.

According to Vet, the transactions settled “for fractions of a penny in a few seconds,” highlighting XRPL’s low-cost and high-speed settlement capabilities.

In his post, Vet stated that Ondo operates as a native issuer of tokenized U.S. Treasuries on the XRP Ledger. After reviewing on-chain activity, he said the transactions reflect Ripple’s participation in a cross-border settlement process involving Mastercard and JPMorgan.

The validator added that this may be the “first near real-time, cross-border, and cross-bank redemption” of tokenized U.S. Treasuries on XRP. Now, the next step is scaling adoption.

The comments came shortly after Ondo Finance announced a successful pilot connecting traditional banking systems with the XRP Ledger.
