The Clarity Act negotiations, which have long favored the bull market and are critical to cryptocurrency regulation in the US, had stalled due to a lack of agreement on stablecoin yields.

However, this issue has also been resolved, and earlier this month, a compromise was reportedly reached on the highly anticipated stablecoin legislation, the Clarity Act. According to reports, Senators Thom Tillis and Angela Alsobrooks reached a comprehensive agreement regarding stablecoin yields.

While the passage of the CLARITY Act is awaited, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and TD Cowen have made important statements regarding the law.

Speaking at the Consensus 2026 event in Miami, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said the next two weeks will be critical in determining whether the Cryptocurrency Market Structure Act (CLARITY) passes.

Garlinghouse stated that the bill’s chances of passing would significantly decrease if the Senate Banking Committee did not consider it. He added that the bill could become very fragile if it were to be delayed until the midterm elections.

Garlinghouse emphasized that the bill was crucial and necessary for the cryptocurrency sector, stating that clarity was better than confusion.

Aside from the Ripple CEO, investment bank TD Cowen is taking a more negative stance. Speaking to The Block, TD Cowen managing director Jaret Seiberg argues that there is no clear middle ground that satisfies both banks and the crypto industry.

According to the bank, trade groups have formally opposed the proposed stablecoin yield consensus, making it difficult for CLARITY to pass this year.

Lawsuits continue to plague the cryptocurrency world. Most recently, an anonymous cryptocurrency whale has filed a lawsuit against Coinbase.

According to The Block, an anonymous crypto whale has sued Coinbase for allegedly failing to return frozen funds related to a 2024 cryptocurrency hack.

The plaintiff, identified only as “DB,” filed a lawsuit on Monday against both Coinbase and the alleged thief, “John Doe.”

ChangeNOW Brings Its Voice to Consensus Miami 2026 Panel Lineup

Consensus Miami 2026 is once again living up to its reputation as the crypto industry’s premier gathering, and this year, ChangeNOW is making its presence felt well beyond the exhibition floor. 

On May 6th, the team is heading to attend two back-to-back panel discussions, ​”Meetup: Data Consistency & Resilience Under Peak Loads“, organized by NOWNodes at the Miami Beach Convention Center’s dedicated “Meet Ups” zone. NOWNodes is the blockchain node infrastructure, an arm of the NOW ecosystem. 

The panels aim to provide sharp perspectives on infrastructure resilience, tokenization, and the real-world adoption challenges facing the industry today. 

Representing ChangeNOW at both events was Pauline Shangett, the company’s Chief Strategy Officer, who took on moderating duties for the first session in her role as Strategic Advisor to NOWNodes. 

Worth noting that the NOWNodes panels are only part of Pauline’s schedule at Consensus this year. On the daily chart, Ethereum appears to have broken out of a bull flag pattern, typically considered a continuation setup that forms after a strong upward move followed by a period of consolidation. The breakout above the upper trendline suggests that buyers are regaining control after several sessions of sideways movement.

Blockchain.com launches SnapMarkets as prediction markets move into faster crypto betsBlockchain.com, a crypto wallet and exchange founded in 2011, announced the launch of SnapMarkets, a platform that lets users wager on whether bitcoin’s price will rise or fall in 30-second windows, on Wednesday.

Stakes start at $1 in what the company calls a skill-based version of prediction markets. The launch comes as prediction markets surge, with market leaders Polymarket and Kalshi seeing a combined notional trading volume close to $24 billion in April.

The market as a whole saw $29 billion in volume that month, Dune data shows. That includes event markets across categories such as sports, politics and finance.

SnapMarkets has a different offering for now. Instead of contracts tied to election results, sports outcomes or macroeconomic events, the app offers rapid-fire $BTC price calls that resolve every 30 seconds. A Blockchain.com spokesperson told CoinDesk additional market formats are planned.

The format makes SnapMarkets closer to short-term trading than traditional event forecasting. Users pick a direction, choose a stake and wait for the round to settle. Over such short windows, $BTC price moves can be difficult to forecast consistently.

Prediction markets’ regulatory backdrop

Prediction markets spent years fighting the CFTC, including Kalshi’s court battle over election contracts and Polymarket’s 2022 settlement with the agency. But the U.S. posture has changed over the past year.

The CFTC dropped its appeal in the Kalshi election-contract case in May 2025, and the agency has since turned into a former foe now giving prediction markets more tailored guidance.

That shift has opened a new fight between federal and state regulators. State gambling authorities have challenged platforms including Kalshi, Robinhood, Crypto.com, Polymarket and Coinbase, while the CFTC has moved to defend its authority over event-contract markets.
