 Ethereum After Reducing Bitcoin ETF Exposure

For long, Bitcoin has remained the major target for institutional investors, but lately Ethereum is turning up strongly on their radars too. Many companies have begun to accumulate the leading altcoin at a significant rate, with some even dumping a portion of their Bitcoin holdings to buy more ETH.

As the crypto sector expands, the market is now experiencing a major shift in institutional investors’ interest. A number of companies are starting to increase their exposure to Ethereum while reducing their exposure to Bitcoin.

Jane Street is changing the way it is exposed to cryptocurrencies by increasing its stake in Ethereum and decreasing its holdings in Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). The move is gaining attention throughout the crypto market because it may represent shifting institutional preferences in the market for digital assets.

Deci, a market commentator, stated that Jane Street’s addition of ETH funds and reduction of exposure to BTC ETFs does not automatically make them ETH maximis. However, it does point to a growing and real rotation.

Large investors are becoming more interested in ETH, possibly due to its growing role in Decentralized Finance (DeFi), tokenization, and blockchain infrastructure, even though Bitcoin has long dominated institutional portfolios. According to the expert, institutional investors are beginning to treat ETH less like an altcoin and more like a separate macro asset next to Bitcoin and Gold. 

In the expert’s view, BTC was the first digital store of value, but now ETH is becoming the financial infrastructure trade. Such a distinction, he believes, is where the market keeps underpricing the altcoin.

A whale shorts bet amid ongoing market uncertainty has raised questions about whether something significant is coming for the broader financial market.
Data from the derivatives platform CoinGlass reveals that a whale wallet address (0x8def9f5) has opened short positions worth $72.32 million across multiple markets, including crypto and tech stocks such as Bitcoin, Hyperliquid, TSLA, and NVDA, among others.
The report shows that this whale is heavily positioned in crypto, with $47.78 million in Hyperliquid, $12.37 million in Bitcoin, and $73.41K in Toncoin.

CME and ICE push US regulators to scrutinize HyperliquidCME Group and ICE urged US regulators to scrutinize Hyperliquid for manipulation and sanctions risks on May 15.

CME and ICE warned that Hyperliquid’s anonymous, round-the-clock perpetual futures trading could distort global commodity benchmarks, particularly in oil markets. The exchanges also flagged risks of insider coordination and sanctions evasion by state-linked participants exploiting the platform’s permissionless structure.

Hyperliquid holds a market capitalisation of approximately $10.3 billion, making $HYPE the 13th-largest crypto asset globally. At its April 2025 peak, the platform accounted for roughly 70% of the on-chain perpetual futures market.

$HYPE falls as Wall Street targets DeFi perp venue

The pressure campaign comes as Hyperliquid has expanded into synthetic markets for stocks and commodities, placing it in direct competition with CME and ICE. Both exchanges operate under strict regulatory oversight that Hyperliquid currently does not face.

The Hyperliquid Policy Center argued the platform provides markets that are “more beneficial and present fewer risks than traditional centralised exchanges” and expects the CFTC to develop a tailored regulatory framework for on-chain derivatives platforms.

Hyperliquid launched the Policy Center in Washington in February 2026, selecting veteran crypto policy lawyer Jake Chervinsky to lead the organisation. The group has held direct meetings with the CFTC aimed at establishing a legal path for US retail participation.

A Cryptocurrency Project Has Decided to Shut Down for Good
Barrett Williams, co-founder of Ranger Finance, a company operating in the cryptocurrency sector, announced that the project has entered the process of ceasing operations.

In its statement, Williams acknowledged that the company had lost its sustainability and that it was unable to fully meet its obligations to some employees and business partners.

Williams stated that Ranger was struggling to grow beyond its capacity and, with weakening cash flow, the founders were using their personal capital to keep the company afloat. He explained that the company had conducted a funding round through MetaDAO to raise capital, but delays in the process had resulted in a backlog of bills. It was also reported that some team members continued working knowing they would not receive salaries until new capital arrived.
