Here is what $100 oil means for Bitcoin network

As oil surges past $100 amid escalating Middle East tensions, the question for the Bitcoin network and miners is not whether their power bills will rise, but whether Bitcoin’s price will fall.

According to research from bitcoin mining software and services company Luxor’s Hashrate Index, the direct effect of oil price shocks on mining costs is likely to be limited, but the broader macroeconomic consequences could weigh more heavily on the industry.

However, the impact of oil prices surging isn't zero on the Bitcoin network.

Luxor estimates that about 8 to 10 percent of global bitcoin hashrate operates in electricity markets where power prices are closely linked to crude oil. These operations are primarily concentrated in Gulf states such as the United Arab Emirates and Oman, with smaller contributions from Iran, Kuwait, Qatar and Libya.

“The genuinely oil-exposed countries" are the Gulf states, Luxor wrote in its research note, adding that the UAE and Oman together account for roughly about 6% of the network's computing power or hashrate.

"These grids run primarily on natural gas derived from oil production, with electricity pricing that does track crude more directly than in the US or Russia," the report said.

Meanwhile, Iran is estimated to hold another 0.8%, and other smaller contributors like Kuwait, Qatar, and Libya bring the total crude-sensitive hashrate exposure to roughly 8–10% of the network.

Financial services firm NYDIG faulted recent reports linking Bitcoin (BTC) to software stocks amid a market slide. Heightened macro events and global risk factors were cited rather than structural indicators.

In a recent market note, Greg Cipolaro, Head of Research at NYDIG, attributed Bitcoin’s convergence with stocks to imminent market factors. Previously, industry analysts concluded that there was a strong correlation between the two markets after prices moved in tandem across several cycles.

After closely monitoring price swings, tech-heavy markets seemed to perform when Bitcoin had a strong bull case. This was closely followed by an upward swing in crypto stocks.

These assets are influenced by digital assets and mice in tandem with crypto prices. While this position remained at the fore of arguments, Cipolaro and other experts pointed to similar Artificial Intelligence (AI) impacts among others. 

“While the visual fit of their indexed prices is compelling, the conclusion that Bitcoin and software equities have structurally converged, or that they share common exposure to themes such as AI or quantum risk, is overstated…. More plausibly reflects shared exposure to the current macro regime, specifically long-duration, liquidity-sensitive risk assets.”

Since Q3 2025, this correlation has spiked, driving sentiment, but other stocks have moved similarly, so it is not limited to tech companies. According to him, only 25% of Bitcoin’s price movements are structurally related to stocks.

“It won’t protect them from the inflationary tsunami they’ve imposed on Americans,” Araghchi said.
The intelligence that triggered the price surge came from CBS White House Correspondent Jennifer Jacobs, who reported that US intelligence assets had picked up signs of Iranian mine deployment activity in the Strait.

Brent crude climbed above $90 a barrel after dipping to an intraday low of around $82. West Texas Intermediate, the US benchmark, rose above $80 after touching $77 earlier in the session.

Both were still down significantly on the day, but the speed of the recovery underscored how sensitive traders are to any supply threat at this chokepoint.

Grayscale’s Avalanche Staking ETF began trading on Nasdaq on Wednesday, offering spot exposure to AVAX with staking rewards.

The asset manager said Avalanche has processed more than 11.4 billion transactions since 2020, with the new fund staking AVAX to participate in the network’s proof-of-stake system.

The Grayscale Avalanche Staking ETF began trading on Nasdaq on Wednesday, adding a staking-enabled product tied to the Avalanche network's native token to its lineup of exchange-traded products.

The product first launched as a private placement in August 2024 and is structured as a Delaware statutory trust, Grayscale said in its prospectus. The fund, which trades under the ticker GAVA, holds AVAX directly to provide spot exposure to the token while staking it to generate rewards through Avalanche’s proof-of-stake network, the asset manager said.

Avalanche itself is a multi-chain smart contract platform that supports high-throughput applications, custom blockchains known as Avalanche L1s, and enterprise-level configurability, the asset manager noted. Since its 2020 launch, the network has processed more than 11.4 billion transactions, according to onchain data.

"GAVA complements our existing suite of more than 40 digital asset products and provides investors with the ability to gain exposure to one of the market's leading smart contract platforms, supported by Grayscale's scale, research, and infrastructure," Inkoo Kang, senior vice president of ETFs at Grayscale, said in a statement.

The Connecticut-based asset manager, which bills itself as the world's largest digital asset-focused investment platform with approximately $35 billion in assets under management as of late 2025, maintains a broad lineup of ETFs.
