The United States is ramping up financial pressure on Iran, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirming new sanctions targeting multiple crypto wallets linked to the country. The move is part of the Trump administration’s broader strategy to intensify economic restrictions amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and a fragile ceasefire.
According to reports cited by CNN, stablecoin issuer Tether has frozen around $344 million in USDT after coordination with the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and law enforcement agencies. The frozen wallets are believed to be connected to sanctioned Iranian entities.
“We will follow the money that Tehran is desperately attempting to move outside of the country and target all financial lifelines tied to the regime,” Bessent said.
The development highlights how cryptocurrencies are increasingly being pulled into global sanctions enforcement. Earlier reports from the Financial Times also suggested that Iran has begun accepting Bitcoin for certain payments, including transit fees for oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran, already a notable Bitcoin mining hub, has long relied on crypto assets to bypass international sanctions. Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis estimates that Iranian crypto holdings reached $7.8 billion in 2025, with a significant portion linked to state-affiliated groups.
The latest frozen wallets on the Tron network reportedly held $213 million and $131 million in USDT, respectively, and had been inactive for years before being blacklisted at the smart contract level.
As sanctions enforcement moves deeper into blockchain infrastructure, crypto is increasingly becoming a frontline tool—and battleground—in global financial power struggles.

The firm’s BTC Yield climbed to 9.6% YTD 2026, with an average cost of $75,537 per coin.

Michael Saylor hit 5 million X followers on April 27 as Strategy’s bitcoin accumulation pace holds steady.

The purchase was made at an average price of roughly $77,906 per bitcoin. As of April 26, 2026, Strategy’s full bitcoin position was acquired for approximately $61.81 billion at an average cost of $75,537 per coin. The company also reported a bitcoin yield of 9.6% year-to-date through 2026, up from 9.5% disclosed in its prior filing one week earlier.The April 27 buy comes one week after Strategy disclosed a separate 34,164 BTC acquisition for $2.54 billion, made at roughly $74,395 per coin last week. That purchase brought total holdings to 815,061 BTC. The latest transaction adds another 3,273 coins, extending the company’s position further into record territory.

Strategy has now completed more than 107 documented purchase events since August 2020, financing its bitcoin accumulation through equity offerings, convertible notes, and preferred stock instruments. The company trades on public markets under tickers MSTR and STRC. With 818,334 BTC on its books, Strategy controls roughly 3.9% of bitcoin’s fixed 21 million coin supply.

The disclosure landed on the same day Saylor reached 5 million followers on X, where he regularly posts bitcoin reserve updates and price charts to a growing global audience. The milestone reflects his position as one of the most visible corporate advocates for bitcoin as a treasury asset.

Bitcoin was trading near $77,800 at the time of the disclosure, keeping Strategy’s average cost basis of $75,537 well below current spot prices.

Bitcoin ($BTC) surged above $79,000 before the opening of Asian markets. News of a new offer from Iran to the US played a role in this rise, but it was short-lived.

After $BTC experienced a sharp drop, quickly falling to levels around $77,600, Coinshares released its cryptocurrency report, stating that there was a $1.2 billion inflow last week.

“Cryptocurrency investment products saw inflows of $1.2 billion. This marks the fourth consecutive positive week.”

Bitcoin ($BTC) Inflows Remain Strong!

Looking at crypto funds individually, inflows are concentrated in Bitcoin. $BTC experienced inflows of $932.5 million, while the largest altcoin, Ethereum (ETH), saw inflows of $192.4 million.

Looking at other altcoins, $XRP saw a $25 million inflow after last week’s surge. Besides $XRP, Solana (SOL) also saw a $31.8 million inflow, and Chainlink (LINK) saw a $6.8 million inflow.

“There has been an inflow of $932.5 million into Bitcoin, bringing total inflows since the beginning of the year to $4 billion. There has also been an inflow of $16.5 million into Bitcoin short positions. This indicates that demand for hedging continues, but it is not high.”

Ethereum saw $192 million in inflows, marking the third consecutive week above $190 million.

Looking at regional fund inflows and outflows, the US ranked first with an inflow of $1.08 billion.

After the US, Germany ranked second with $61.7 million in inflows, while Switzerland came in third with $35.2 million.

These inflows resulted in Hong Kong experiencing outflows of $1.3 million, while France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Sweden saw smaller outflows.
