Three reasons bullish Bitcoin traders are betting top crypto’s price hits $80,000 



Bitcoin traders are betting that the price will hit $80,000 by the end of June, according to Nick Forster, founder of onchain options platform Derive.xyz.

Derivatives markets now imply a 14% jump from current prices near $70,000, he said in an investor note shared with DL News.

“Crypto markets are beginning to stabilise as geopolitical tensions surrounding the ongoing conflict in Iran continue,” Forster said. “Despite earlier fears of a catastrophic crash of the crypto markets, derivatives markets suggest those concerns may have been overstated.”

Forster’s $80,000 target lands against a volatile geopolitical backdrop. The escalating conflict in the Middle East has seen US equities falter. The S&P 500, and Dow have slipped 1.4% and 2.6%, respectively since February 27, one day before joint US and Israeli attacks struck Iran.

Coinbase Global Inc. (Nasdaq: COIN) reported on May 7 that its first-quarter performance reflected stronger participation across spot trading, derivatives, stablecoins, and on-chain products. The crypto firm posted $202 billion in quarterly trading volume, $294 billion in assets held on platform, and a workforce of more than 4,900 employees.

Retail and institutional participation accelerated during the quarter. “Coinbase crypto trading volume market share increased to 8.6%, a new all-time high driven by product innovation and derivatives growth,” the crypto firm noted, adding that derivatives have become a larger part of its trading business, with trailing-12-month volume up 169% from the prior year. Retail derivatives also reached an annualized revenue run rate above $200 million, while prediction markets crossed $100 million in annualized revenue less than two months after launch. Coinbase stated:

Activity on Coinbase’s broader platform also increased outside traditional exchange trading. The analysis focused on how those resistance levels could determine whether recent recovery attempts develop into a sustained reversal.

The chart in the analysis mapped Bitcoin UTXO age bands against realized price levels for different holder cohorts. It identified the 3-month to 6-month realized price near $88,879 as the first line of overhead supply above spot price. Another resistance wall appeared near $93,446 for the 12-month to 18-month cohort. The heaviest concentration came from the 6-month to 12-month band near $111,851, which remained roughly 29% above $BTC spot price at the time of the study. The analysis stated:

IREN Limited (NASDAQ: IREN) has announced revenue fell to $144.8 million in the quarter ended March 31, 2026, down from $184.7 million in the prior quarter, as weaker Bitcoin economics collided with its ongoing buildout of AI Cloud capacity.

The drop was $39.9 million, tied to a lower average Bitcoin price and the removal of older mining machines before new GPU systems began generating full customer billing.

The bottom line was uglier. IREN reported a net loss of $247.8 million, compared with a $155.4 million loss in Q2 FY26. Adjusted EBITDA fell to $59.5 million from $75.3 million. Costs also came down by $25.9 million, mainly because reduced mining activity lowered power use.

The quarter carried $140.4 million in non-cash impairments, mostly from retired mining hardware, and $23.7 million in unrealized losses tied to capped calls linked to convertible notes.

IREN replaces old mining hardware with Blackwell GPUs under a new NVIDIA deal

IREN signed a five-year, $3.4 billion AI Cloud contract with NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) covering air-cooled Blackwell GPUs. The company plans to place that hardware inside 60MW of existing data center space at Childress, with customer ramp-up expected from early 2027.

Daniel Roberts, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of IREN, said, “The world is structurally short compute, and the bottleneck is delivered data center and GPU capacity.” After that, Daniel said the quarter included work across power, land, data center construction, and large-scale compute delivery.

The company also entered a wider 5GW partnership with NVIDIA. That agreement covers data center designs and infrastructure built around NVIDIA systems across IREN’s global power base.
