Argentina blocks access to Polymarket after early bets on February inflation

Authorities in Argentina have ordered a nationwide block on the prediction market platform Polymarket following a ruling by Buenos Aires Judge Susana Parada on March 16, reporting from Clarín indicates.

Argentina’s ENACOM, which oversees telecoms, broadcasting, internet, radio, and postal services, is tasked with implementing the national measure through ISPs and app stores, preventing access to the platform on both Android and iOS.

The decision follows Polymarket’s accurate prediction of February inflation data ahead of INDEC’s publication, which has drawn scrutiny from authorities and journalists.

Data analysis highlighted small but unusually timed wagers from accounts that normally trade minimal amounts, raising suspicions of insider activity.

According to Clarín, complaints from LOTBA (Buenos Aires City’s lottery authority) and CASCBA (the national gambling industry association), supported by investigations by FEJA (the city’s gambling prosecutor) and CIJ (the technical investigative branch of the Public Prosecutor’s Office), found that the platform operated as an unauthorized online betting system.

The court highlighted that Polymarket allowed easy account creation, accepted crypto assets and credit cards, and lacked age verification, increasing risks for minors.

While some praise the move as protecting users, critics warn it may limit access to global prediction tools, making Argentina the second Latin American country to impose a full ban.

Colombia became the first country in Latin America to ban Polymarket after its gambling regulator, Coljuegos, declared the platform illegal to operate without a license in September 2025 and instructed ISPs to block access.

Erik Voorhees, widely recognized for his early support of Bitcoin and for founding ShapeShift, has returned to the crypto market with a strong focus on Ethereum after taking a one-year break.

The renewed accumulation of Ether by Voorhees coincides with a broader upswing in the Ethereum market, as the cryptocurrency gains momentum and spot ETFs continue to attract significant institutional inflows.

According to on-chain data, Voorhees recently spent about $49.08 million in Tether’s USDT to acquire 23,393 ETH at an average price of $2,098, executing the purchases through two separate wallets on Sunday. The move signals renewed confidence in Ethereum from one of the crypto industry’s earliest and most prominent figures.
With $35.25 million in USDT still in reserve, he could potentially expand his Ethereum holdings even further, Lookonchain noted. The analytics firm also reported that Erik Voorhees had offloaded 12,886 ETH roughly a year ago, when the altcoin king was trading at around $3,324.

Notably, since the report by the Lookonchain, one of the wallets — 0x3e6…Ef2f7 — has swapped several more million USDT for additional Ethereum. As a result, the combined holdings across the two wallets have increased to 24,968 ETH, currently valued at approximately $57 million.

With this upward push, the $XRP Open Interest has soared to $2.73 billion, representing a 7% rise in the past 24 hours and marking a new 1-month peak.

The recent spike in $XRP’s price and Open Interest has led to increased short liquidations, with short positions accounting for 95% of total liquidations over the last 12 hours.

This current condition points to a possible squeeze-driven bounce, as the ongoing short squeeze continues to fuel $XRP’s rally.

If the squeeze continues and spot demand rises, $XRP could rise higher, but if OI rises too sharply, the market could face an over-leveraged condition.

$XRP Retests $1.5 Resistance Amid Rebound

The latest $XRP rebound effort began in late February after the market recovered from the immediate impact of the Israel-Iran conflict. $XRP rose from an initial low of $1.27 on Feb. 28 to a high of $1.47 by March 4 before pulling back to $1.32. While this pullback dampened investor confidence, it led to a higher low than the Feb. 28 figure.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission is planning to roll out a proposal that would permit public firms to report earnings twice a year rather than the long-standing quarterly reporting need.

As per the report published by The Wall Street Journal, the proposal can roll out anytime in the upcoming month. Before publishing the rule, regulators have been having words with prominent stock exchanges regarding how their listing needs might need to change if firms are given the option to report results every six months rather than every quarter.

If the proposal were officially issued, it would also interfere with the SEC’s rulemaking process, which comprises a public comment duration that normally lasts around 30 days before the commission votes on whether to adopt the change.

However, there is not confirmation that the rule will eventually be passed and approved. The plan would not kick out the quarterly report completely. Rather than this, it would make quarterly disclosure optional, permitting firms to choose whether to carry on publishing financial updates every three months.

Quarterly earnings reports have remained an integral part of U.S. capital markets since 1970, when regulators rolled out the Form 10-Q filing need to offer investors regular updates on firms’ performance.

Supporters of the change claim that quarterly reporting supports excessive short-term pressure on corporate management and imposes prominent compliance costs for public firms.

Advocates mention that suppressing the frequency of needed disclosure could help reverse the long-term fall in the number of publicly listed firms in the United States. Although critics have alerted that less frequent reporting could weaken transparency.
