Sentinel Action Fund said it will spend $8 million with its sister advocacy group to back Republican Senator Jon Husted against Sherrod Brown in the upcoming race.

Sentinel Action Fund has received backing from the Solana Institute and Multicoin Capital, a crypto-focused venture capital firm.

Sentinel Action Fund, a U.S. super PAC (political action committee) backed by the Solana Institute, has pledged $8 million to support Republican Senator Jon Husted in Ohio for the upcoming November midterms.

The super PAC said Wednesday that it plans to pour $8 million alongside its sister advocacy organization Right Vote to back Husted's campaign.

Jon Husted has been a vocal supporter of crypto innovation. Advocacy group  rates him as "strongly supports crypto" based on his past statements, and he has backed key pro-crypto legislation, including the GENIUS Act.

In a , Husted called for a "pro-innovation framework for digital assets," suggesting that digital asset technology represents the "next wave of economic opportunity for working families."

Husted is running against Sherrod Brown, a Democratic Senator who has been a vocal critic of the crypto industry. Notably, Brown has advocated for a crackdown on the use of cryptocurrency to fund terrorism and evade sanctions. Brown lost his Senate seat in the 2024 election.

"[Brown] has stood in the way of pro-innovation policies when it comes to digital assets," Sentinel Action Fund President Jessica Anderson said in the Wednesday statement.

Sentinel has received backing from the Solana Institute and Multicoin Capital, a crypto-focused venture capital firm. The Solana Institute has donated $750,000 to the super PAC so far, while Multicoin has contributed $250,000, according to Federal Election Commission records.

Charles Hoskinson used a lengthy video address this week to deliver what he described as a long overdue reckoning for Bitcoin maximalists, centred on a quantum computing threat he says is no longer theoretical and a proposed fix he says does not actually work.

As of March 1, 2026, over 34% of all Bitcoin has had its public key exposed on-chain, either through address reuse or legacy pay-to-public-key-hash formats. That represents approximately 8 million Bitcoin that could be stolen by an attacker with a sufficiently powerful quantum computer. Based on current research timelines, Hoskinson places that threat arriving in the 2030s.

“Not hypothetically one magical day in the future when unicorns fart rainbows,” he said. “In the 2030s. Right in front of your face.”

The Proposal That Does Not Solve the Problem

A Bitcoin Improvement Proposal currently circulating, BIP-361, attempts to address the vulnerability by freezing quantum-vulnerable funds and forcing a migration to post-quantum addresses. Hoskinson spent considerable time dissecting why he believes it fails on its own terms.

The proposal claims to be a soft fork. Hoskinson says it is not. It would require a hard fork, something Bitcoin has never done and, by the religion of its maximalist community, never will.

More critically, the proposed zero-knowledge proof recovery system only works for wallets built on the BIP-39 seed phrase standard, which was not introduced until 2013. Approximately 1.7 million Bitcoin, including an estimated 1.1 million belonging to Satoshi Nakamoto, exist in legacy wallet formats that predate this standard. There is no zero-knowledge proof that can recover those coins.

On Hyperliquid, just three of the top 10 markets by volume are crypto pairs, while the rest are tokenized equity or commodity futures.

The following is excerpted from The Block’s Data and Insights newsletter.

Open interest (OI) on Hyperliquid's HIP-3 markets hit a record high of $2.38 billion last week. As of Wednesday, OI sits at slightly under $2.1 billion, still near its highs despite a 12% pullback likely tied to broader risk-off moves.

HIP-3's growth trajectory has been staggering, from just around $280 million in OI at the beginning of the year to crossing $1 billion less than a month later and $2 billion by the end of the quarter. Year-to-date, HIP-3 OI is up approximately 580%. TradeXYZ alone accounts for over 90% of all HIP-3 OI.

On the Hyperliquid platform itself, only three of the top 10 markets by volume are crypto pairs. The rest are tokenized equity and commodity futures such as Nasdaq proxies, oil, gold, silver, and the S&P 500.

Traders are increasingly seeking exposure to equities and commodities outside traditional market hours, and HIP-3 provides that without intermediaries and with crypto-native settlement.

Existing tradfi incumbents such as CME, ICE, and Eurex don't offer 24/7 equity futures, while Robinhood and Interactive Brokers don't settle on-chain.

The $5 billion OI mark is where things get interesting for HIP-3. At that level, HIP-3 starts generating enough volume and liquidity to attract market makers who currently operate on CME and CBOE.
