Android Screen Recording App—— iRecorder Found to Spy on Users and Steal Data

A cybersecurity firm has discovered that the popular Android screen recording app "iRecorder - Screen Recorder" began spying on its users by stealing microphone recordings and other documents from their phones. The malicious code, called AhRat, was introduced as an app update almost a year after it was first listed on Google Play and allowed the app to upload a minute of ambient audio from the device's microphone every 15 minutes. The app has since been removed from Google Play, but had already amassed over 50,000 downloads. The code is likely part of a wider espionage campaign, but it is unclear who planted it or for what reason.
