Ripple has recently unlocked one billion XRP from escrow, which has led to speculation that Ripple is preparing for a settlement in the ongoing SEC lawsuit ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵:

- 1.1 billion XRP were initially moved to new wallets, then 800 million XRP were locked back into escrow.

- An additional 100 million XRP were transferred, leaving 300 million XRP available for future use.

- The 1 billion XRP tokens are worth $477 million.

- Ripple’s escrow system was established in 2017 to release one billion XRP each month over 55 months.

- The purpose of this system is to prevent the XRP supply from flooding the market and causing price volatility.
