Robotaxi Approval Gives Another Boost to Autonomous Driving Narrative
The Nevada Department of Transportation has approved Tesla Robotaxi LLC to operate a commercial self-driving vehicle network in Clark County, allowing the deployment of up to 5,000 vehicles over the next 12 months. This permit strengthens Tesla's long-term narrative of transitioning from an automaker to an AI and autonomous driving platform. The upcoming Cybercab release remains a key focus for investors.
The company's Q2 FY2026 revenue hit a record $28.236 billion, a 26% year-on-year increase, with 480,126 vehicles delivered. Strong production at the Shanghai Gigafactory contributed to these figures. While the growth data indicates continued expansion in the automotive business, the market is more concerned about whether profit margins can improve in tandem.
Massive China Recall Poses Regulatory Risks
Tesla simultaneously faces a recall of 2.98 million vehicles in the Chinese market. The scale of the recall is unprecedented and may lead to repair costs, brand impact, and regulatory pressure. Meanwhile, the Energy business's gross margin fell to 20.4%, indicating that not all high-growth segments can sustain previous profitability levels.
The company expects capital expenditures to exceed $25 billion in FY2026. Massive investments are required for Robotaxi, Cybercab, AI training, and new capacity. If commercialization proceeds slower than anticipated, free cash flow could come under pressure.
$355 Support and $369 Resistance
The original technical analysis identified $355 as key support and $369 as immediate resistance. If the share price holds above $355 and breaks through $369, it would suggest the market is more willing to trade on the long-term potential of Robotaxi and Cybercab. A drop below $355 could mean concerns over the recall, profit margins, and capital expenditures regain prominence.
Considering the price of around $345.82 on August 26th shown in the chart, the stock has already fallen below the support level mentioned in the original article, indicating a weaker technical structure than at the time of publication. In the short term, it needs to reclaim the $348 to $355 zone to ease downward pressure. If it continues to face resistance, the $320 target comes into view. Tesla's paradox remains clear: autonomous driving offers immense imagination space, but valuation requires the actualization of operational scale, regulatory progress, and cash flow.
