Поводом для распространения панических настроений стала череда событий. 14 августа по сети разлетелись слухи о том, что Google Play начнет блокировать криптокошельки. Платформа предъявила новые требования разработчикам приложений. Многие участники криптосообщества боятся, что из-за бюрократических трудностей с Google Play пропадут их любимые приложения.

Масла в огонь подлил министр США Скотт Бессент. Во время интервью 14 августа он заявил о том, что США не планирует покупать биткоины под криптовалютрый резерв. По его словам, регуляторы ограничатся монетами, которые поступают в кошельки в результате конфискаций.

Позднее вечером того же дня Бессент опубликовал в X полностью противоположное заявление. Он утверждает, что США планируют найти бюджетно-нейтральные способы приобретения большего объема биткоинов.
