В ночь на 4 сентября 2024 года аккаунты родственников кандидата в президенты США Дональда Трампа в X (ранее Twitter) были скомпрометированы для продвижения скам-токена. В частности, от хакерской атаки пострадали дочь и невестка политика Тиффани Трамп и Лара Трамп.

Получив доступ к аккаунту последней, злоумышленники опубликовали сообщение, в котором продвигали токен под тикером WL, который якобы связан с проектом Трампа — World Liberty Financial.

«Наша цель в World Liberty заключается в том, чтобы использовать наш токен управления на базе Solana — WL, для поддержки нашего протокола DeFi-кредитования. Мы хотим забрать власть у централизованных банков и вернуть ее людям», — говорилось в сообщении хакера на странице Лары Трамп.

На странице проекта World Liberty Financial предостерегли, что аккаунты скомпрометированы, а также призвали не покупать токены.
