Ethereum Builder Says CLARITY ACT Rumors May Be Potential Catalyst For Next Crypto Market Dump

The next cryptocurrency market dump could be spearheaded by a myriad of factors across the crypto market as well as the broader global finance market. While it remains unknown what the exact catalyst could be, Crypto market players are already outlining their predictions in an attempt to inform fellow market participants.

In a recent post shared to X, formerly Twitter, a prominent Ethereum builder pointed to the widely discussed and highly anticipated CLARITY ACT as a potential driver of the crypto market's next dip.

Econar, a long-time Ethereum builder and crypto personality, took to X to share that a weak price rally-a fake out-may be witnessed as rumors of CLARITY ACT potentially being passed intensify.

"Crypto is going to do that thing where we barely pump on rumor of something good happening (CLARITY), and then when it doesn't happen, despite the pass not even being properly priced in, we will dump lower than we would have dumped if nothing ever happened."

Econar's position speaks to the market trend of "buying the rumour and selling the news," a pattern in the crypto community often led by increased market hype on a specific product, event or potential development, with no concrete evidence in sight.

In such cases, market players have historically responded to delays and weaker-than-expected performances with profit-taking and disappointment, often resulting in a sell-off.

Hashdex plans to put some of the crypto held by its Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF (NCIQ) to work through staking. The sponsor takes the first slice of net income, while common shareholders begin sharing in the rewards after an annual threshold is cleared.

The framework is prospective. A July 23 Form 8-K named Coinbase Cloud as the initial provider and said staking was expected to begin promptly, subject to operational readiness.

Under the July 23 prospectus supplement, a staking provider first retains its portion of gross rewards. Hashdex then receives all remaining net staking income up to a dollar threshold equal to 0.25% of common-share net asset value through one Sponsor Share, a separate unlisted class held exclusively by Hashdex. Income above that threshold is split 40% to Hashdex and 60% to the trust for holders of publicly traded NCIQ common shares.

The threshold is measured over each fiscal year and prorated for a partial year. If net staking income stays at or below it, none is allocated to the trust for common shareholders' benefit.

For illustration, if net staking income reached 1% of common-share NAV after provider fees over a full year, the trust would receive 0.45% for common shareholders. Hashdex would collect the remaining 0.55%, comprising the first 0.25% and 40% of the next 0.75 percentage point. The figures are illustrative rather than a forecast or realized return.

Market sentiment has turned cautious because Bitcoin increasingly correlates with high-growth technology shares.

Tech equity liquidation triggers crypto selloff
Data from TradingView shows that the Nasdaq-100 index closed its previous trading session at 28,128 points, establishing an eleven-week low. This equity drawdown stems from investor anxiety that massive capital expenditures toward AI infrastructure will reduce immediate corporate cash flows and increase corporate debt burdens.

For example, Alphabet purchased $94 billion worth of SpaceX stock during a June initial public offering, highlighting the scale of tech-sector capital allocation.

Commenting on the move, Peter Andersen, Chief Executive Officer of Andersen Capital Management, noted:

“People are thinking, how do we make sense of all this spending, and how much more patient do we have to be before we actually see it translate to actual profits?”
