Bitcoin (BTC) just posted its strongest three-day rally since 2023, and two prominent investors now say the move reflects capital finally leaving an overheated artificial intelligence (AI) trade.

There has been much speculation about the role AI investing has played in Bitcoin’s own market. Now, with this rally, and concerns over an AI bubble, many are noting thw way the capital is rotating.

Big Names Now Confirm the Shift

Analysts have flagged this possible shift for months without confirming it was happening. Research firm K33 warned in June that Bitcoin was losing ground as institutions chased AI returns instead.

Investor Steve Eisman went further in July, saying he had sold his Google position to cut AI exposure, warning the entire market had become one crowded trade. Then, in late July, veteran macro investor Jordi Visser argued that AI’s easy-money phase was ending and that Bitcoin stood to benefit next.

Bill Miller IV, chairman and chief investment officer at Miller Value Partners, is now making the same case with fresh conviction. His comments this week, paired with Visser’s, mark two of the clearest signals yet from named, established investors that the rotation out of AI and into Bitcoin is actively underway, not just theorized.

He pointed to two forces behind the reversal. Growing doubt about AI capital expenditure returns is pushing “longdated thinkers” back toward crypto, he said.

At the same time, governments have intervened twice in quick succession. Japan and the US supported the yen in late July, and the US Treasury Department said last week it would double its long-dated bond buybacks, a move that eased pressure on yields and coincided with one of the largest short-liquidation waves crypto markets have seen.

A Rotation Play and a Hedge at Once

Treasury’s bond buyback plan fights the market and heightens the danger, billionaire Druckenmiller says.Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller, a former mentor to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, has a lesson for his onetime protege: governments cannot indefinitely fight market fundamentals.

That lesson comes in response to the Treasury’s recent decision, under Bessent’s leadership, to increase bond buybacks to $4 billion in an effort to tame longer duration yields or borrowing costs, which recently hit the highest since 2007.

Druckenmiller’s point is that such interventions may offer temporary relief but cannot overcome the underlying forces pushing yields higher, namely nominal growth rate, large fiscal deficits and a growing government debt burden. The federal debt recently hit the $40 trillion mark for the first time ever.

“Governments defending prices against fundamentals always lose," Druckenmiller wrote in an opinion piece for The Wall Street Journal, adding that, “rising interest rates are a signal of trouble ahead [and] artificially suppressing it heightens the danger.”

He argued that markets gather and process information far better than any committee of people ever could. The long-term Treasury yield acts as a natural check on how much the government can borrow. Take that check away, he said, and you also take away the pressure on politicians to stay fiscally responsible.

Bitcoin price trades around $80,700 on Tuesday, maintaining a firm bullish bias as it holds well above the 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) clustered between roughly $67,400 and $71,900. 

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) extends deep into overbought territory near 84 on the daily chart. At the same time, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line remains well above zero and prior highs, suggesting strong but potentially overextended upside momentum.

On the topside, the next key hurdle is horizontal resistance around $85,000, where profit-taking could slow the advance. 

On the downside, initial support is seen at the 200-day EMA near $71,898, with additional demand expected around the 100-day EMA at $67,709 and the 50-day EMA at $67,392; a deeper pullback would expose horizontal supports at $66,500 and then $62,300.

Crypto’s latest rally is spreading into the market’s more speculative corners, with dog and cat-themed memecoins posting some of the biggest gains as traders move further out on the risk curve.

Robinhood-based Cash Cat led the move Tuesday, jumping about 51% over 24 hours to $0.218 and more than 113% over the past week. The token has gained about 345% over 30 days, taking its market value to roughly $215 million.

Other cat-themed tokens have joined the chase. Thinking Cat has surged 131% over seven days, Purr is up 93%, Popcat has jumped 54% and cat in a dogs world, or MEW, has climbed 49%.

The same pattern is showing up among dog coins. Dog (Bitcoin) has nearly doubled over the past week, while dogwifhat has climbed 64%, Bonk 47% and Floki 40%.

Even the largest memecoins are participating, though with smaller gains. Dogecoin is up about 32% over the past seven days and Shiba Inu about 30%.

Memecoins are cryptocurrencies built largely around internet jokes or communities rather than a traditional business or cash flow. Their prices tend to react strongly when traders become more willing to take risk, making the smaller tokens a useful gauge of speculative appetite.

The latest moves suggest some of the gains that began in larger cryptocurrencies are now reaching tokens further down the market-cap rankings, where thinner liquidity can produce much larger percentage swings.

Cash Cat is a good example. About $80 million of the token traded over the past 24 hours against a market value of roughly $215 million — or unusually heavy turnover for a coin of its size.

That can work both ways, however. Smaller memecoins can rise much faster when buyers pile in, but the same lack of depth can magnify losses when traders head for the exits.
