And the fact that Bitcoin isn't yet "overbought" is a good thing, said Stockton.
Bitcoin is no longer oversold but there’s still time to buy, according to Fairlead Strategies’ Katie Stockton. 

Speaking on Tuesday to CNBC, the financial research firm’s managing partner said that Bitcoin cleared its 200-day moving average back in May, meaning that a potential breakout could be coming. 

Bitcoin started rallying last week on news that the Treasury would at least double the size of its liquidity-support buyback operations. It’s up over 22% over a seven-day period, and was recently trading for $78,915. The coin traded above $81,000 on Monday. 

“It’s not overbought yet, so that’s the good thing,” said Stockton. 

“Whenever you see a breakout above a resistance level, it’s always better to have that immediate follow-through to essentially confirm the breakout.” 

Bitcoin was trading under $65,000 for most of June and July and experiencing its lowest volatility in its 17-year history. 

Its recent rally has some analysts saying that the so-called debasement trade could be hot again. The debasement trade is when investors buy assets when they think fiat money is losing value. 

And losing value it is: The dollar slid following the Treasury’s announcement last week. Gold and bitcoin have since rallied. 

Bitcoiners have long argued that the biggest cryptocurrency can work as a hedge against government printing, along with precious metals. 

U.S. investors last week piled back into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds; the investment vehicles had their best week since October, with nearly $2 billion in inflows.

The First-Ever Spot ETF for an Altcoin Launched Today

Cryptocurrency asset management company Grayscale has launched a new exchange-traded product (ETF) in the US, offering investment in the privacy-focused altcoin Zcash ($ZEC). The company’s Zcash ETF, ZCSH, began trading on the NYSE Arca today.

Created by converting the Grayscale Zcash Trust into an ETF, ZCSH is the first exchange-traded product in the US to focus on $ZEC. According to shared data, as of August 24, the fund had approximately $314 million in assets under management, with approximately 387,200 $ZEC in its portfolio.

The annual management fee for ZCSH has been set at 2.5%. Grayscale also announced that revenue from these management fees, earned for up to 12 months following the effective date of the registration notification, will be used to support the Zcash ecosystem and for product marketing activities.

In its announcement of the new product, Grayscale described Zcash as one of the leading digital currencies that provides financial privacy. The company stated that Zcash allows users to choose whether or not to keep their transaction details private, combining this with a limited supply and mining-based monetary policy similar to Bitcoin.

Grayscale noted that while Bitcoin transactions are traceable on a public blockchain, Zcash, with its maximum supply of 21 million units and proof-of-work consensus mechanism, allows users to keep their balances and transactions private.

Wall Street is making it easier for bitcoin whales to ditch self-custody: reportBlackRock has made it a lot cheaper for bitcoin whales to swap self-custody for shares in its Nasdaq-listed spot $BTC ETF, IBIT, a shift that’s accelerating due to crypto crime, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The minimum value of bitcoin needed to swap directly into IBIT shares slipped to $1 million in July. It used to be $25 million, the report said, adding that ETF issuer Bitwise has also cut its threshold to $3 million from $100 million.

The swapping works through a process called “in-kind creation,” where investors hand over their $BTC to the fund and get ETF shares back. This way they don’t need to sell their $BTC and then buy ETF shares, which attracts capital gains tax.

Such transactions are already booming. IBIT alone has processed more than $5 billion of these swaps, up from $3 billion back in October, according to Robbie Mitchnick, BlackRock's head of digital assets.

Driving the trade is crypto kidnappings, hacks, and custody failures. "People see things happen in the outside world... that motivate them to make this switch for all or some of their holdings," Mitchnick told Bloomberg.

The trend is not limited to bitcoin. Issuers such as Grayscale and VanEck now do this for ether.

Spot ETFs have pulled in billions in investor money since their debut in 2024.

Instead, the rollout established a fundamental backdrop for traders to evaluate when considering VIRTUAL’s market structure going forward.
