Polkadot recovers 17% after Hyperbridge exploit: Will DOT’s gains continue?

 The Hyperbridge exploit caused Polkadot [$DOT] to lose a significant portion of its market cap, but it has since fully recovered.

 The altcoin’s price crashed after a hacker minted 1 billion $DOT tokens on Ethereum [$ETH] but only sold them for $237K due to lack of liquidity.  The team clarified that the actual loss had ballooned to $2.5 million as the team made efforts to recover the funds.

 However, the assurance that Polkadot’s core network security remained intact fueled a 17% price recovery.

 What drove $DOT’s price recovery?

 A statement released by the team after the exploit assured users of security, as the core network had not been affected.  It’s the bridged $DOT tokens on Ethereum.

 As a result, the community sentiment returned to 82% bullish from 954.1K voters, as per CoinMarketCap.  Consequently, the price of the altcoin rallied from $1.146 to $1.354.

 The relief brought about a rebound in network activity.  As per Artemis data, the number of transactions increased by 1,400, from 10.5K to 11.9K, in just one day.

 Additionally, daily active users (DAU) increased by 1.67x even though the figures remained relatively low.  DAU rose from 3,000 to 5,000, indicating users were gradually returning to the network.

 The Total Value Locked (TVL) also experienced a surge of about 11.29% in a day, while the stablecoin market cap grew to $77.83 million after the massive drop.

 Moreover, the altcoin commanded a significant amount of daily trading volume of about $403 million.  However, the revenue of the network remained low as it attempted to get back on its feet.

A guy in Bulgaria scammed $1 MILLION out of Spotify

Spotify pays around $0.004 every time someone streams a song for at least 30 seconds

So he uploaded 467 tracks that were all barely over 30 seconds

After this he bought 1,200 Spotify Premium accounts, set them to loop his playlist 24/7 and sat back

Those 1,200 bots generated 72 million streams a month, which accounted for over $400,000 in royalties from only $12,000 worth of subscriptions.

The playlists were called "Soulful Music" and "Music From The Heart"

Both made it into Spotify's global top charts and "Soulful Music" hit number 11 in the US, higher than any major label playlist at the time

Meanwhile the whole operation was showing up in Spotify's own weekly revenue reports

They sent that data to record labels every single week for months and nobody noticed it

The craziest part is none of it was illegal

The accounts were paid for with real money, real premium subscribers streamed the songs and every upload had valid copyright

When journalists reached out for comment, a Spotify spokesperson refused to even call it a scam

He only got caught because he got too successful. Breaking into the top 50 made one major label executive look twice at the charts

By the time Spotify deleted the tracks in October 2017, he had already pulled over $1 million in royalties

Years later an American named Michael Smith tried to do the same scheme with AI generated music and 10,000 bot accounts

He made $10 million in royalties but to make it work he had to buy bulk email addresses, lie directly to Spotify when they flagged him and pay for subscriptions using fake names on corporate debit cards

Those lies turned the whole operation into wire fraud

The DOJ busted him in 2024, he pleaded guilty and had to return $8 million

Same scam, different execution and a small detail changed the entire outcom

Market Updates: Circle Sued Over $280M Drift Exploit, Grinex Halts Trading After $13.7M Hack, Public Miners Dump 32K Bitcoin in Q1
A series of major developments has unsettled the crypto sector today, including legal action against Circle Internet Group, a fresh exchange hack, record Bitcoin sales by miners, and the launch of spot crypto trading services by leading brokerage Charles Schwab.

To begin with, Circle Internet Group faces a class action arising from a major breach involving Drift Protocol. The lawsuit, filed in a Massachusetts federal court by investor Joshua McCollum, represents more than 100 affected participants.
The case centers on an April 1 breach that resulted in approximately $280 million in losses. According to the complaint, attackers transferred roughly $230 million in USDC across blockchains over several hours. These transactions allegedly used Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) to route funds from Solana to Ethereum without interruption.

Specifically, the filing argues that Circle failed to take timely action to halt the transfers. It accuses the company of negligence and facilitating wrongful conversion. The case is being pursued by Mira Gibb, with damages to be determined at trial.

In the aftermath, Drift Protocol is expected to overhaul its settlement system, replacing USDC with USD upon resumption of operations.

At the same time, security concerns have resurfaced with a major breach at Grinex. The exchange has halted trading after a cyberattack resulted in losses exceeding 1 billion rubles (about $13.7 million).

Grinex, registered in Kyrgyzstan but closely tied to Russia’s crypto ecosystem, reported that 54 wallets were compromised. The company described the attack as highly sophisticated, raising the possibility of involvement by well-resourced or state-linked actors.

Clarity Act News: Patrick Witt Reveals White House Stepped In to Save Crypto Bill


Crypto Analyst Tony Edward spoke with Patrick Witt, Executive Director, President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets at the Solana Policy Institute summit, where Witt gave a grounded update on the Clarity Act and what’s actually coming next behind the scenes.

Witt made it clear that the stablecoin issue almost blocked the bill completely. That’s when the White House stepped in to mediate between banks and crypto companies, trying to find language both sides could live with.

“We had to step in there and serve as a mediator… bringing the banks and crypto companies together… and ultimately get it to a place where we felt like it was ready to hand back over to the Senate… not to say either side is thrilled about it.”

He explained that this wasn’t about making everyone happy; it was about getting enough agreement to move forward. Banks wanted stricter rules if crypto firms act like banks, while crypto players didn’t want extra layers added at all. The final version sits somewhere in between.

The Clarity Act Timeline Is Tight

Witt didn’t sugarcoat the timeline either.

“Just working backwards from the August recess… you realize you have to take action now to get this out of the banking committee.”

From here, the bill still has to clear the Senate, go through reconciliation, and pass the House before reaching Donald Trump. There’s still a process, and it’s not a short one.
