Bitcoin Cash (BCH) has emerged as a primary focus for long-term utility seekers, driven by the approaching “Layla” network upgrade scheduled for May 15. The May 15, 2026, Layla upgrade is set to activate four key Cash Improvement Proposals (CHIPs) that will fundamentally expand the capabilities of the CashVM. By introducing bounded loops, Pay-to-Script, and reusable function definitions, the network is aiming to restore historical script functionalities that were disabled in the early days of Bitcoin.

For developers, the upgrade means the ability to write complex DeFi logic and stablecoin contracts directly on the layer-one chain without the high transaction overhead seen on Ethereum. This pivot toward “programmable cash” is being supported by the recent release of Bitcoin Cash Explorer v3.7, which has modernized the network’s public interface with Bootstrap 5 and improved readability. Paxos Labs raises $12mln to solve THIS DeFi ‘product problem’

Paxos Labs has raised $12 million to solve what the project calls DeFi’s ‘product problem.’ Notably, Paxos Labs is a spin-off of the crypto infrastructure firm Paxos. 

Through its new Amplify, Paxos Labs believes it can make it super easy for users to earn yield, borrow, and lend assets at scale. 

In a statement, Spencer Bogart, general partner at Blockchain Capital, an early investor and one of the key firms that led the latest fundraising round, said,

The infrastructure problem is largely solved. The product problem, what users and platforms actually do with these assets on-chain, is the largest open opportunity in fintech today, and this is the team to build it.

For the unfamiliar, Paxos is a white-label issuer or simply a service provider that helps other firms to create and manage their branded stablecoins. 

However, the Paxos Labs spin-off was necessary to address the lack of clarity associated with DeFi regulation. Now, the team wants to go beyond branded stablecoins. 

Paxos Labs’ Amplify plans

Amplify is a new stack by Paxos Labs that allows users to mint, earn, and borrow assets. For institutions, Amplify aims to help apps and other fintechs make on-chain assets more productive.

The end goal? Empower users to earn yield.

Crypto fund manager probed in the suspicious death of his fiancé’s death in Zanzibar

Joe McCann, founder of crypto investment firm Asymmetric, is being probed by authorities in Tanzania, following the the alleged death by suicide of his fiancé, U.S. influencer Ashly Robinson, during a trip to Zanzibar.

Robinson, 31, a Miami-based lifestyle creator also known as Ashlee Jenae, was found unresponsive on April 9 in a private villa at luxury resort Zuri Zanzibar, where the couple had been celebrating her birthday and recent engagement. She was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

According to an NBC News report, Zanzibar police investigating the death of Robinson confirmed she died by suicide following a “misunderstanding” between the couple.

Police confirmed the couple had been involved in a heated dispute before being separated twice by hotel staff and sent to separate rooms. However, police said Robinson’s death is still being investigated and have therefore withheld McCann’s passport, according to the news outlet.

Police have questioned McCann and have asked him to remain in the country while they receive the forensic results from Ashly’s autopsy.

The hotel said it was "deeply saddened" by what happened. "Our sincerest thoughts and sympathies go out to the family and loved ones during this painful time. We are providing our full cooperation to the local authorities and the U.S. Embassy," the hotel said in a statement.

Republican U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) claimed this Monday he aims to unveil a draft deal this week to break the stalemate over stablecoin yield between banks and crypto firms. According to Politico, he has been collaborating with Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D‐Md.) on new CLARITY Act language designed to finally settle whether crypto companies can pay interest on idle stablecoin holdings.

According to the report, the text has already been shared with both banking groups and crypto firms. Banks still oppose key elements, the report says, and Tillis has left room for changes.

The already long-standing yield dispute is the main roadblock keeping the landmark CLARITY Act stuck in the Senate, even after the House passed its version last year. Although the GENIUS Act that was passed last year prohibits stablecoin issuers from paying interest directly to holders, it still allows third‐party platforms like exchanges to offer yield.

At the beginning of the month, Coinbase’s chief legal officer Paul Grenwal suggested that negotiators in the Senate were “very close” to a deal on the CLARITY Act’s most contentious crypto issue: the stablecoin yield.
