Bitcoin’s Volatility May Be Down But Expect a ‘Meaningful Move’ Soon, Says Fidelity 

Bitcoin isn't moving. Analysts think that's a sign it could soon do something significant.

Bitcoin has been sitting still recently, and the coin’s volatility is now lower than 98.5% of all days in its 17-year history, according to asset manager Fidelity.

Writing on X, the firm’s digital asset arm said that spot trading volume was also at its lowest level since 2019. 

Bitcoin’s price is virtually unmoved over a 30-day period, with some analysts saying the bottom is likely in. The coin was recently trading for $65,329, nearly 50% lower than the all-time high it notched in October 2025. 

“Think of it like a coiled spring: The longer volatility remains compressed, the greater the potential for a meaningful move once it breaks,” Fidelity Digital Assets wrote. 

The asset manager pointed to a post from earlier this month, where it noted that while volatility was down, such “periods of compression don’t tend to last forever.”

Investment manager VanEck on Tuesday said that bitcoin’s thirty-day realized volatility had fallen to 27.2% annualized, down from 30.4% the prior month and less than half bitcoin’s long-run average of roughly 80%. 

It added that based on the length of prior cycles, the firm sees a bottom potentially forming anywhere between September and November of this year. 

Bitcoin’s wild price swings have dampened — and 2025 was the least volatile year for Bitcoin, according to a K33 Research report from December. 

The firm predicted that 2026 would see the biggest and oldest digital asset beat both gold and equities in terms of gains.  

Following the approval of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in 2024, bitcoin has become available to a whole new class of investors. 

Now, more cautious retail investors — previously put off by cold storage — can buy the asset via brokerage accounts.

Ethereum’s next major network upgrade, Hegotá, is still being reviewed. Of the 66 proposals, only 1 has been officially scheduled. The rest, including three proposals aimed at providing better support for privacy applications on Ethereum, are also being reviewed.

That matters a lot because, on Ethereum, wallet addresses and transaction details are visible on its public ledger. Anyone can check a wallet’s balance or track its transaction history. This can be a serious issue for a business or corporation managing payroll or treasury funds.

Until now, developers were building privacy tools on top of Ethereum to overcome these issues. The privacy proposals that are considered for Hegotá would bring some of these features directly into Ethereum’s base protocol.

Zcash later activated the Ironwood upgrade on July 28, 2026. Ironwood retired Orchard and introduced a new shielded pool. A turnstile limits withdrawals to the amount verifiably deposited, preventing any counterfeit ZEC from leaving the retired pool.

The disclosure matters for the Zcash ETF filing since the trust holds the asset directly. Network defects, supply concerns, or another emergency upgrade could affect custody, valuation, and the ZEC price. The filing places those risks alongside market manipulation, liquidity, and regulatory concerns.

Meanwhile, ZEC price traded near $555 after gaining almost 10% in 24 hours. The token carried a market capitalization near $9.4 billion. CoinGecko data shows that ZCSH volume has remained below $5 million since June. It exceeded $23 million during November 2025.

Privacy blockchain Beldex raises $8M to build encryption tools for AI agents
Beldex, a privacy-focused blockchain infrastructure company, has raised $8 million in a new funding round, bringing its total capital raised to $36 million. The company is working on encryption tools aimed at artificial intelligence agents alongside its existing suite of privacy products.

The round was led by Sigma Capital, with participation from NTC, Nxgen, Digital Consensus Fund and EAK Ventures. It follows two earlier rounds from DWF Labs and Block Alpha that brought in a combined $28 million in 2023.

Vineet Budki, managing director and CEO at Sigma Capital, said the firm was drawn to Beldex’s history in the space. “What stood out to me about Beldex is its long-term conviction,” he said.
