Ethereum’s latest “funding crisis” has triggered a fierce debate over whether to tax staking rewards or to pursue funding from large ETH holders for new organizations like EthLabs.Ethereum is running out of money, according to former insiders.

The warning has sparked one of the fiercest Ethereum governance debates in months: should the network fund developers by taxing staking rewards, or just rely on wealthy Ether holders to bankroll its ecosystem?

Its earliest verified onchain origin is a Jan. 15, 2015, transaction that funded 256 outputs with rewards scaling from 0.001 $BTC to 0.256 $BTC, totaling 32.896 $BTC. A Bitcointalk thread opened Dec. 28, 2015, under the title “ Bitcoin puzzle transaction ~32 $BTC prize to who solves it” marked the first major public discussion of the challenge.

The structure changed materially in 2017 when funds from addresses 161 through 256 were moved into the lower-range addresses, consolidating the challenge to 160 active puzzles. Opera's MiniPay launches Visa debit card for stablecoin spending


MiniPay has launched a Visa debit card that allows users in selected markets across Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia and Europe to make purchases using stablecoins.

According to Tuesday's announcement, the card is powered by Gnosis Pay's infrastructure, enabling users to pay directly from their MiniPay wallets while merchants receive local currency through Visa's network.

MiniPay said it has grown to more than 16 million activated wallets across 65 countries since launching in 2023, with much of its adoption concentrated in Africa and other emerging markets.

The card can be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay, while eligible users in some markets will receive cashback rewards denominated in stablecoins USDt and $USDC, as well as Tether Gold.

MiniPay is a stablecoin wallet owned by Opera, the Nasdaq-listed software company best known for its web browser. Built on the Celo blockchain, the wallet focuses on payments, transfers and savings using dollar-backed stablecoins.

Stablecoins see adoption in emerging markets

The launch comes as stablecoins gain traction in emerging markets. In Latin America, a recent Bitso report found that dollar-backed stablecoins overtook Bitcoin as the most-purchased crypto asset among the exchange's users in 2025, with $USDC and USDT accounting for a combined 40% of purchases.

Adoption is also accelerating among businesses in the region. Bitso reported that stablecoin transaction volumes among its institutional clients rose 81% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, while banks and licensed payment providers accounted for more than 60% of new business customers added during the period.

Fake GTA 6 early access sites are turning one of gaming’s biggest release cycles into a crypto theft funnel. Fraudulent pages claim to sell access to Grand Theft Auto VI before launch, asking victims for $250 or more in $BTC, $USDT or Ether. The sites deliver nothing after payment, leaving users with no reversible card transaction and no download. The unsettling part is that gaming hype is being converted into irreversible crypto loss, just as official preorders approach and demand peaks for players chasing access before everyone else online today.

Security researchers found the scams emerging only days before Rockstar Games’ official preorder window this week, with fake storefronts using polished graphics, Vice City-style artwork and GTA 6 branding to resemble premium game retailers. One site sold “VIP Digital Access” for $250, then instructed buyers to enter a transaction ID to unlock a nonexistent file. Rockstar has said official preorders begin June 25 through authorized digital storefronts and select retailers, while GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026. Crucially, there is no legitimate early access program, making any pre-launch download offer unauthorized.
