Trump signed two executive orders to speed up US quantum computing and post-quantum encryption, as experts warn Bitcoin wallets face future risk.

President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on Monday. The orders aim to grow US quantum computing power and speed up the shift to encryption that can resist quantum attacks.

The push is tied to what experts call "Q-Day." This is the point when quantum computers could become strong enough to break the encryption that protects government systems and cryptocurrency wallets.
The first order calls for building a quantum computer the administration describes as scientifically relevant by 2028. It also requires the Commerce, Energy, and Defense Departments, along with NASA, to create plans for quantum sensors and networking tools within five years.

A senior White House official said the Department of Energy will set the technical specifications for the system. The plan is to place it at a national laboratory or another Department of Energy facility, as a step toward larger quantum systems in the future.

White House science adviser Michael Kratsios said quantum technology remains a top priority for national security and the economy. He said Trump signed the National Quantum Initiative Act during his first term, doubled federal funding for quantum research, and launched five national quantum research institutes.

The second order moves the federal deadline for adopting post-quantum cryptography to December 2031. That is four years earlier than the 2035 target set under a previous security memorandum.

The order also directs the National Institute of Standards and Technology to run a pilot project to transition federal systems by the end of 2027. ......

Bitcoin's futures market has undergone a sharp leverage reset. Traders are now watching whether the next move will be driven by spot demand rather than derivatives speculation. Data shared by Cryptoquant on June 22 showed total $BTC Open Interest across exchanges falling from $26.0 billion to $20.89 billion during June.

The drop in futures exposure outpaced the decline in price. Bitcoin fell from roughly $71,200 at the start of the month to $63,234 by June 21, down 11.4%, while Open Interest contracted 19.5%, indicating futures exposure was reduced more aggressively than the decline in $BTC price.

Referring to the decline in futures positioning and the reduction in leveraged exposure across the market, the analyst stated:

"So far, the data shows that excess leverage has been reduced."

Traders often track the relationship between price and Open Interest to assess market structure. During the first week of June, $BTC fell to a local low of $60,900 on June 6 while Open Interest dropped from $26.0 billion to about $22.4 billion, a pattern consistent with liquidations and position reductions rather than a buildup of new leveraged positions.
