Bitcoin Hits Two-Week Low as Tech Selloff Sparks Risk-Off Mood

Bitcoin fell to an almost two-week low as a selloff in tech stocks hit risk assets.

The original cryptocurrency fell as much as 3.9% to $61,877, its lowest level since June 11. It pared some losses to trade around $62,400 at 10 a.m. in London. Other tokens declined as well, with Ether down as much as 5.6%. Solana and XRP fell as much as 6.4% and 3.3%, respectively.

Global oil prices extended their recent decline on Monday as optimism grew over ongoing U.S.-Iran peace negotiations and the reopening of the vital Strait of Hormuz. The easing of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East significantly reduced concerns over potential supply disruptions, pushing crude oil benchmarks lower.Brent crude futures for September delivery dropped 2.7% to $77.90 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures for August delivery fell 2% to $74.31 per barrel. The decline follows last week's sharp losses, with both benchmarks recording weekly drops of 7% to 9%.Market sentiment improved after U.S. President Donald Trump signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran during the G7 summit in France. The agreement established a 60-day negotiation period and called for an immediate halt to military operations across multiple fronts. A key provision involved reopening the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping routes, without charges or restrictions during the negotiation period.Although concerns resurfaced over the weekend after renewed clashes involving Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, diplomatic efforts quickly resumed. U.S. and Iranian officials met in Switzerland alongside mediators from Qatar and Pakistan. Following the talks, U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated that a mechanism had been established to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and maintain regional stability.Adding to the positive outlook, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a temporary 60-day license allowing Iran to produce and export oil as negotiations continue. Ethereum is seeing strong network growth, and a new Etherealize breakdown of Token Terminal’s Ethereum Q1 2026 performance report explains why. Even though lower fees might look negative at first, they’re actually part of Ethereum’s plan to make the network cheaper and easier to use.

That strategy seems to be working. Over the past year, monthly active users jumped 85.9%, transactions rose 81.5%, and network throughput increased 81.7%, showing much higher overall activity. And the growth isn’t slowing down. 

The upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade is expected to more than triple the gas limit, while Ethereum’s long-term roadmap aims for 10,000 TPS and faster finality by 2029.

Record User Growth on Ethereum
One of the biggest highlights was user activity.

Based on the report, monthly active users reached an all-time high of 13.2 million, up 53.5% from the previous quarter and nearly 86% compared to a year ago. Whereas, the transaction count hit a record 200.4 million, while network throughput climbed to 25.78 transactions per second.

At the same time, Ethereum layer-1 fees dropped to $39.9 million, down nearly 48% quarter-over-quarter. The decline came as network upgrades made transactions cheaper and increased data capacity.

In simple terms, more people are using Ethereum while paying less to transact.
