Synthetix Governance Votes to Retire sUSD, Pay Holders in Vested SNX

Synthetix governance has moved to retire sUSD, proposing to pay all holders back at face value in vested $SNX under SIP-423, introduced June 12. The stablecoin now trades at roughly $0.25 against its $1.00 target, per CoinGecko and DefiLlama.

Synthetix founder Kain Warwick and core contributor Benjamin Celermajer authored the proposal. Under SIP-423, the sUSD contract would be frozen and deprecated. Each eligible sUSD holder would receive four $SNX tokens per sUSD, at a conversion that values $SNX at $0.25 and sUSD at its intended $1.00 face value. The $SNX tokens carry a one-year lock followed by a one-year linear vest from the freeze date. The claim window opens approximately one year after the freeze.

Four Components

SIP-423 has four parts. First, a holder snapshot: an audit of all sUSD balances on Ethereum and Optimism at a governance-defined cutoff block. Second, the sUSD retirement itself. Third, a restructure of the existing Debt Jubilee under SIP-420, which would close the 420 Pool, remove sUSD staking ratio requirements, and give existing debt participants the choice of a four-year lock with a one-year vest, or an early exit by repaying their remaining debt in full. The fourth component, $SNX staking reform, is deferred to a separate build.

A contingent $USDT path is included: if Synthetix generates more than $10 million in protocol revenue within the two-year lock-up period, 25% of that revenue can be distributed as $USDT to legacy sUSD holders who prefer cash over $SNX. Both the $10 million threshold and the 25% share are adjustable by the Spartan Council via SCCP

The 50-day moving average stands at $1.20, while the 100- and 200-day averages are positioned at $1.28 and $1.35 respectively, reflecting an ongoing advantage for sellers in the broader trend. For a more meaningful turnaround, analysts note that $XRP would need to reclaim these levels as new support zones.

BTC ETF lost nearly $227 million in net outflows over the past weekBitcoin and major altcoins have continued to bleed as some of the biggest buyers pull capital from ETFs.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded nearly $227 million in outflows in the past week, according to market data from SoSovalue. The latest record extends the outflow streak to six straight weeks, although it’s the least amount for that period.

In the week before, $BTC saw a negative $315.8 million total net flow. The highest weekly outflow came in the first week of June at $1.72 billion, Cryptopolitan reported.$SoSoValue
As of June 20, the 30-day net outflow stood at $6.35 billion. Galaxy Research says it’s the worst stretch across all 582 rolling 30-day windows.

$SOL, $XRP, $HYPE ETFs saw inflows except $ETH
Major altcoins, except $ETH, recorded net inflows last week, but far less than during market rallies.

Spot Ethereum ETFs lost $10.05 million in net outflows, also marking their sixth week of withdrawals, according to SoSoValue data.

$SOL ETFs gained $7.11 million in net inflows. $XRP ETFs also gained $10.66 million, while $HYPE ETFs recorded as high as $27.95 million in net inflows. DOGE and $BNB ETFs saw less than $300K in inflows.

Despite the inflows, most of these altcoins, including $BTC, traded lower in market price.

$BTC is down by 2.50% in the last seven days, trading at $64,521 at the time of writing. $ETH is down only 0.22%. $XRP and $BNB are down 6.35% and 4.11%, respectively. $HYPE also sees 0.69% decline in 7days.

$BTC holders remain hopeful
While ETF investors have been pulling cash amid lower prices, on-chain data shows long-term holders remain unwavering in their conviction.
