A district court in North Savo, Finland, on June 18 convicted Jouko “Pottukoira” Kärkkäinen, 44, of a gambling offense for marketing casinos other than the state monopoly Veikkaus to Finnish audiences on his website, Instagram and Kick between May 2023 and February 2024. The court imposed 80 day-fines totaling about $2,700 (€2,480), plus a roughly $90 surcharge.

Kärkkäinen denied wrongdoing, arguing his streams were entertainment rather than commercial marketing, were not aimed at Finland, and that he did not control the website carrying the casino links. The court rejected that, pointing to repeated Finnish-language promotions – such as “150 free spins for just €10” – posted beside links to his site, and held that a gambling-marketing conviction does not require proof the promoter was paid or benefited; his purpose to promote the operators was enough.

The case is unusual mainly for its visibility. Finnish influencers have promoted offshore casinos for years, but enforcement has run through administrative channels – including a roughly $27,000 conditional fine the National Police Board imposed on Kärkkäinen in 2024, upheld on appeal, after which he relocated to Estonia to keep working with foreign operators.

The Veikkaus monopoly is being dismantled, with licensing opened in March 2026 and the regulated market going live on July 1, 2027. Nevertheless, marketing non-Veikkaus operators stays illegal until then. The verdict is not final, and Kärkkäinen could appeal by July 20, though he has indicated he will not do so, laughing off the penalty.

TradFi Trading Strategies Sharing Challenge

Secret Network's Axelar Bridge Drained $4.67M via Infinite-Mint FlawSecret Network's cross-chain bridge to Axelar has been suspended after an attacker exploited a years-old minting flaw to drain $4.67 million in wrapped tokens over seven undetected days.

Both teams disclosed the incident on June 19, confirming approximately $4.67 million in assets were taken from the bridge's Axelar-to-Secret IBC connection. The attack itself began on June 10 but went unnoticed for seven days until a routine cross-chain transfer failed because the bridge's escrow account had been depleted.

Minting Flaw
The vulnerability lived in a modified CW20-ICS20 smart contract deployed on Secret Network for the Axelar bridge connection. Security research firm Common Prefix published a technical breakdown of the incident, finding that two critical validation checks had been commented out from the contract's packet-receive function: one that should have verified incoming token denominations against the legitimate source channel, and one that should have capped outflows to amounts genuinely held in escrow.

The flaw dates to the contract's initial deployment in March 2023 and survived a migration on March 5, 2026 that updated the bytecode for new features but preserved the missing checks. Secret Network's default transaction encryption obscured the growing shortfall from on-chain observers; the attack ran for seven days before a failed transfer surfaced it.

To exploit the gap, the attacker spun up a single-validator Cosmos SDK chain and opened a new IBC channel to Secret Network. IBC channel creation is permissionless by design, meaning any chain can initiate a connection. The attacker self-relayed forged IBC packets carrying bare denominations that matched the bridge's allow-list. With both validation checks missing, the contract minted unbacked wrapped tokens

Lawyer wants Satoshi’s anonymous ‘finder’ to drop the maskA New York attorney has asked a state judge to unmask an anonymous claimant who wants to take legal ownership of roughly 3.8 million $BTC, including Satoshi Nakamoto’s holdings.

The request landed in the New York State Courts Electronic Filing system a few weeks before an in-person hearing on July 14.

Soon, a judge will have the ability to decide whether one of the boldest property claimants in crypto history — seeking ownership of near a quarter trillion dollars worth of $BTC — may keep its mask on.

The claimant calls itself “Noah Doe,” an obvious play on the John and Jane Doe placeholder names for legal procedures. Alongside two unnamed Wyoming companies, listed as “ABC Company” and “XYZ Company,” Doe sued in New York County Supreme Court.

Doe wants to obtain legal title to approximately 39,000 supposedly “dormant” crypto wallets holding roughly 3.8 million $BTC.

At Monday’s $BTC price near $64,500, that stash is worth approximately $245 billion.
