The fee disclosure also signals that major financial institutions are willing to compete aggressively for crypto ETF assets. That is a very different market from the early years of crypto investing, when access itself was scarce and investors often paid high fees for regulated exposure.

The staking component may be even more important than the headline fee. Ethereum and Solana are proof-of-stake networks, meaning holders can earn rewards by participating in network validation through staking. ETF structures have had to deal carefully with this issue because staking can introduce operational, regulatory, tax, liquidity, and slashing risks.


According to the filing details described in the source packet, Morgan Stanley’s proposed structure would retain 95% of staking rewards inside the trusts for investors, while 5% would compensate staking service providers and custodians. The sponsor would not take an additional cut of those rewards beyond the stated management fee.

That approach could make the products more attractive if regulators allow staking-enabled spot crypto ETFs to move forward. Investors would not simply receive passive price exposure; they could also benefit from staking economics inside the fund structure.

Tokyo-listed Gumi Bets Big on XRP, Plans to Become Japan’s Largest Institutional Holder
Tokyo-listed game developer Gumi is doubling down on XRP, consolidating ¥14B, worth more than $90M, in assets to become Japan’s largest institutional holder.

The platform stated on Friday that it is restructuring its business into two pillars, the “Neo Media Entertainment Business” and the “Neo Crypto Business,” with XRP operations remaining a cornerstone of the business.

Notably, the company has been gradually building its position in the asset, including a board-approved purchase of approximately ¥2.5 billion worth of XRP.

At the center of Gumi’s shift is a new “NeoCrypto Business” division, positioned alongside its core entertainment arm. Rather than treating XRP as a passive holding, the company is embedding it into active financial infrastructure initiatives as a functional asset.

The goal is to develop revenue streams from node operations, asset management, and fund participation. Gumi also plans to collaborate with institutional partners, such as SBI Holdings, to expand its crypto fund operations and liquidity services. A joint venture, Hinode Technologies, will play a key role in managing blockchain infrastructure activities.

At the same time, the firm noted that declining returns across the crypto sector have made it increasingly difficult to secure predictable yields.

Beyond accumulation, Gumi is introducing a more complex yield-generation strategy built around covered call options. The company plans to hold XRP while simultaneously selling call options to generate recurring premium income.

The strategy builds on earlier crypto exposure, including an investment in Bitcoin earlier last year, when Gumi disclosed a ¥1 billion ($6.5 million) BTC purchase in a letter to the market, highlighting its broader experimentation .......

Crypto Investors Lost Nearly $1 Million to Promises of Guaranteed Returns

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced June 18 that federal jurors convicted Daniel Chartraw, 53, formerly of South Lake Tahoe and Lodi, California, after an eight-day trial tied him to cryptocurrency and investment fraud schemes that cost investors nearly $1 million. The case involved Crypto-Pal LLC, TDA Global LLC, and victims across the country.

Prosecutors presented a case built on false guarantees, sham ventures, and investor funds that were never used as promised. The schemes ran from March 2021 to February 2022, during which Chartraw and an associate controlled multiple companies and communicated with investors via calls, texts, emails, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.

The DOJ explained:

“Crypto-Pal was a web-based cryptocurrency trading company that guaranteed high returns with no risk.”

“At various points, Chartraw also claimed that TDA Global was engaged in supplying jet fuel to airlines or operated its own cryptocurrency trading platform,” the Department of Justice continued.

Trial evidence showed Chartraw directed operations while using aliases including “Leonard” and “Leon.” He told associates he needed to conceal his identity due to a prior fraud conviction, though many investors later learned that Chartraw controlled the businesses and their accounts.

Investor pitches shifted across business lines. Crypto-Pal was promoted as a crypto trading operation, while TDA Global was described at different times as a jet fuel supplier to airlines or as a separate cryptocurrency trading platform.

The European Union has approved anti-money laundering rules that will ban regulated crypto firms from supporting privacy coins while leaving direct Bitcoin transfers between private wallets outside the scope of mandatory identification requirements.

According to Regulation (EU) 2024/1624, which will take effect on July 10, 2027, crypto-asset service providers operating in the bloc will face stricter customer verification obligations and new restrictions on services that enhance transaction anonymity.

The regulation arrives alongside a bloc-wide €10,000 (around $11,500) limit on commercial cash payments and introduces additional compliance requirements for several industries considered vulnerable to money laundering risks.
