“Macro conditions were genuinely tough,” Coinbase chief financial officer Alesia Haas told investors on an earnings call. “Total crypto market cap and total crypto trading volume were both down more than 20% quarter-over-quarter.”



Coinbase’s earnings come as other crypto companies have also struggled to turn a pr

ofit in the first months of 2026 as a crypto market slump pushed some traders to other investments.

Meanwhile, Coinbase’s$ Q1

 revenue was $1.41 billion, missing analyst estimates of $1.5 billion. Transaction revenue slumped 40%, while subscription and services revenue — representing its business outside trading — fell 13.5% from a year earlier.

Its earnings per share were a $1.49 loss, compared to analysts' expectations of 36 cents per share, which saw Coinbase dropping by 4.7% after hours on Thursday to under $184.

Treasure Global Inc. (NASDAQ: TGL), a Malaysia-based technology company, announced that it created an Ethereum-based Digital Asset Treasury today, May 7. It also named BitGo as its custody provider. The company plans to start with an initial deposit of approximately $176,000 in $ETH.

According to its press release, the company plans to use the treasury framework over time to support capital deployment of up to $100 million. However, that figure is conditional, as the release specified that deployment would be “subject to market conditions and strategic opportunities.”

Treasure Global runs the ZCITY Super App, a popular Malaysian platform used by over 2.7 million people for digital payments and earning rewards (as at December 2025). According to the press release, the company is not changing how it does business, and is only buying digital assets as “a complementary balance sheet strategy.”

Treasure Global chose Ethereum as its first treasury asset based on the network’s role in decentralized finance, stablecoin settlement, and tokenized asset infrastructure. The company described Ethereum as “a foundational infrastructure layer in the emerging on-chain economy” in the press release.

This move places TGL among a growing list of public companies investing spare capital into Ethereum. According to data from Strategic $ETH Reserve, there are currently 67 entities holding 7.33 million $ETH (roughly $16.03 billion) collectively, which is about 6% of the total circulating supply.With $ETH current prices around $2,185, a full $100 million treasury would give Treasure Global roughly 45,700 $ETH. That amount would place TGL on the same level with projects like FG Nexus (50,770 $ETH, approximately $111 million currently) and Lido DAO (39,720 $ETH, around $86.9 million), according to Strategic $ETH Reserve’s rankings.TGL’s proposed $100 million $ETH t

Donald Trump Jr. addressed rumors Thursday that he and his family have quietly exited World Liberty Financial, insisting he and his siblings remain part of the crypto firm as it ramps up a high-profile legal skirmish.

“I think I saw on Twitter at one point that Don and Eric had abandoned the project,” Zach Witkoff, another World Liberty co-founder, said during a Thursday afternoon appearance at Consensus, a Miami crypto conference.

“It was news to me too,” Trump Jr. chimed in, chalking the rumors up to misinformation spread online after World Liberty took a list of company co-founders, including President Donald Trump and his three sons, off the company website.

“You get enough people who blindly follow what someone’s feeding them, you get bots pushing it… I don’t think I’d be on this stage here if that was the case,” Trump Jr. continued.

As far as I’m aware, Don and Eric are still very much co-founders of the project,” Witkoff added.

The co-founders were prompted to respond to the rumors by the panel’s moderator, David Wachsman—an independent crypto PR executive who runs public relations for the Trump family’s crypto firm.

During the panel, Wachsman also asked Trump Jr. and Witkoff to address a lawsuit filed this week by World Liberty against crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun. Sun, the founder of the Tron network and one of World Liberty’s top financial backers, sued the company last month, alleging rampant misconduct by its leadership.

“This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of +25.68%,” said Zacks Equity Research on Thursday. “Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates two times.”

Expanding Bitcoin’s use into the payments space has been a key area of focus for Dorsey, who previously argued that widespread payment adoption is needed to fulfill Satoshi Nakamoto’s original vision of Bitcoin as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. In late April, Block noted that over 800,000 US-based merchants have enabled Bitcoin transactions for everyday purchases.

Block reports first quarterly loss in three years

The earnings beat came despite Block reporting its first quarterly loss since 2023, driven by a 23.8% drop in the price of Bitcoin over the three-month period.

Q1 net loss was $309 million, which included a $172.8 million bitcoin remeasurement loss on the 8,883 Bitcoin it held as of March 31.

Bitcoin revenue from Cash App and other Block products fell to $1.8 billion from $2.33 billion a year ago.

Block attributed the fall to “Bitcoin trading dynamics” and a “strategic decision to reduce the fee” charged on certain Bitcoin transactions on Cash App
