On the technical side, Bitcoin dominance (BTC.D) has logged four straight days of downside pressure after its early May breakout to 61.2%. At the same time, the Altcoin Season Index has jumped by more than 10 points in less than 24 hours, reinforcing a classic BTC-to-altcoin rotation setup.

Historically, however, altcoin rallies rarely sustain momentum unless Ethereum [ETH], the largest altcoin, starts gaining strength against Bitcoin [BTC], allowing deeper capital to flow across the broader altcoin market

Selling pressure steadily faded after Sei [$SEI] established a firm floor between the $0.050 and $0.052 range during early April. A rounding bottom gradually formed afterward, signaling buyers were slowly absorbing weakening sell-side liquidity beneath the surface.

Momentum strengthened further once the $0.0563 resistance flipped into support, which later became the launchpad for the breakout.

Before the expansion, price briefly dipped below the $0.055 support zone, likely sweeping weaker positions and unlocking liquidity for continuation higher.

The move then accelerated toward the $0.0694 resistance while maintaining minimal retracement across the 4-hour structure.

Meanwhile, rising green volume confirmed genuine capital inflows rather than temporary low-liquidity spikes as the RSI approached the 70 overbought threshold.

After $SEI’s aggressive expansion toward the $0.0694 resistance, momentum gradually shifted into a controlled retracement phase. Price initially faced sharp rejection near $0.0694 before retracing toward the 38.2% Fibonacci support around $0.0657.This zone now acts as the market’s immediate strength test because strong bullish structures usually defend shallow pullbacks quickly.

If buyers maintain control above $0.0657, momentum may rebuild toward another retest of the $0.0694 high. A successful breakout there could expose it toward the psychological $0.080 region.

Meanwhile, RSI cooled toward 55.85 after previously entering overbought territory above 70, helping reset momentum conditions. CMF also remained positive near 0.12, signaling capital still flows into the token despite profit-taking pressure.

However, losing the $0.0634 support may expose the token toward the $0.060 region again.

How Coinbase Restored Trading and Balance Updates
Coinbase engineering lead Rob Witoff posted on X that the disruption began late on May 7, when internal systems started failing, and emergency teams began investigating. The outage affected spot trading, Prime, International, and derivatives exchanges. Customers also experienced problems accessing exchange services, placing trades, and viewing account balances.

Witoff explained that trading was halted after exchange systems could not continue operating safely during the infrastructure disruption. He also noted that internal messaging systems slowed, causing some account information to lag until the recovery process caught up. He acknowledged:

“Losing access to your account, even temporarily, is unacceptable.”

Recovery was handled in stages rather than all at once. Coinbase moved affected workloads away from the troubled area, restored the systems needed to process trades, and allowed delayed customer data to catch up. Markets reopened carefully, starting with cancel-only mode, followed by product checks, auction mode, and then restored trading on Coinbase Exchange.

But Europe’s latest stance under MiCA is sending a very different message.
The European Banking Authority (EBA) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) are making it clear that regulators care less about branding — and more about who actually controls the protocol.
If a team can still:
• Freeze funds
• Upgrade smart contracts
• Control governance
• Operate multisig wallets
• Influence protocol infrastructure
…then regulators may decide the project is NOT “fully decentralized.”
The recent Arbitrum Security Council action highlights this perfectly.
Despite being a permissionless Layer-2 network, a governing body was still able to freeze roughly $71M linked to the Kelp DAO exploit.
That single action exposed a key regulatory reality:
Control matters more than decentralization narratives.
MiCA’s “fully decentralized” exemption appears far narrower than many crypto founders expected.
The new European approach is becoming obvious:
Regulators will judge DeFi projects based on operational control, not marketing slogans.
2026 may become the year the industry is forced to redefine what “decentralized” really means.

Morgan Stanley has launched E*Trade crypto trading at 0.5%, undercutting Coinbase, Schwab, and Robinhood in a pilot set to reach 8.6 million users.

Morgan Stanley has launched ETrade crypto trading at a flat 0.5% fee, below Coinbase and Schwab. The pilot went live on May 6 with Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana available directly inside ETrade brokerage accounts via Zerohash, which handles liquidity, custody, and settlement. Bloomberg reported the pricing, which places Morgan Stanley below every major retail competitor.

Schwab launched its own spot Bitcoin and Ether trading in April at 75 basis points. Fidelity charges roughly 1% per trade. Robinhood is commission-free but carries spreads of 35 to 95 basis points per transaction.

ETF analyst Eric Balchunas said rivals “likely won’t let this stand” and predicted fees across the industry will compress sharply, drawing a parallel to the race to zero expense ratios among Bitcoin ETFs.

Clients receive direct ownership of digital assets rather than fund exposure, which eliminates third-party management fees but carries greater price risk. The pilot does not yet support staking. Zerohash manages all back-end operations, keeping private keys away from users.

As crypto.news tracked, the ETrade crypto rollout is one piece of a broader digital asset push that includes Morgan Stanley’s MSBT Bitcoin ETF, which launched April 8 at a 0.14% expense ratio and hit $103m in inflows within days.

The bank is also building a proprietary digital wallet expected in the second half of 2026, designed to hold crypto alongside tokenized stocks, bonds, and real estate. Morgan Stanley head of wealth management Jed Finn previously described the crypto trading launch as “only the beginning.”
