Governor Abigail Spanberger signed House Bill 798 into law on April 14, marking a shift in how the state handles abandoned crypto accounts. The measure will take effect on July 1, 2026, and updates Virginia's unclaimed property statute to include digital assets.

Under the law, cryptocurrency held in customer accounts that show no activity for five years will be presumed abandoned and transferred to state custody. Unlike prior practices in many jurisdictions, the assets must be transferred "in-kind," meaning the state takes possession of the actual tokens rather than converting them into cash upon receipt.

Tether moves over $70 million in bitcoin to reserve wallet: Arkham

The world’s largest stablecoin issuer received 951 BTC ($70.5 million) from a Bitfinex hot wallet to an address labeled as its bitcoin reserve, according to Arkham Intelligence data.

The bitcoin was worth $70.5 million at current prices.

Tether's bitcoin reserve now totals 97,141 BTC. The firm is the second-largest holder among private companies, behind Block One, according to Bitcoin Treasuries data. Strategy is the largest publicly-traded holder of BTC.

The move is consistent with Tether's pattern of accumulating bitcoin and moving the asset to its reserve wallet periodically. Last November, Tether moved 961 BTC (then worth $97 million) from Bitfinex to its bitcoin reserve. 

Tether began buying bitcoin in September 2022. Then, in May 2023, the company announced that it would allocate 15% of its net profits each quarter toward bitcoin purchases. Since then, the company has consistently increased its reserves as part of its long-term diversification strategy.

Last June, Tether withdrew 14,000 BTC from its bitcoin reserve wallet and moved it to an address labeled as belonging to Twenty One Capital.

Bitcoin was trading for $73,936 as of 1:02 p.m. ET on Wednesday, according to The Block Price Page.

About 4% of Tether's over $190 billion worth of reserves backing its USDT stablecoin are held in bitcoin, according to the company's website.

Michael Saylor Revealed That His Company Has Made $1.3 Billion from Bitcoin in Just the Last Two Weeks

According to Michael Saylor, Strategy achieved significant profits from its Bitcoin ($BTC) strategy during the first two weeks of April 2026. Saylor stated that a total profit of 17,585 $BTC was made during this period, which is worth approximately $1.3 billion at current prices.

Saylor noted that this earnings measurement differs from the traditional accounting concept of “net profit,” but stated that, when evaluated within the framework of the “Bitcoin standard,” it is the closest indicator to net profit.

According to data shared by the company, as of April 15th, Strategy’s total $BTC holdings reached 780,897 $BTC. The current market value of this amount is estimated to be approximately $58.1 billion.

Bitcoin Exchange Upbit Adds This Fan Token to Its Trading Alert List! Here Are the Details

Upbit, one of South Korea’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges, announced that it has added the SPURS token to its “trading alert” list as part of its investor protection policies.

The exchange stated in its announcement that the decision was made in accordance with the audit processes implemented within the framework of the Digital Asset Exchanges Joint Advisory Board (DAXA).

According to the statement, reviews of the SPURS/BTC trading pair revealed that the token’s market capitalization and overall performance fell short of expectations, potentially posing risks to investors. Therefore, Upbit has temporarily placed the asset under monitoring to ensure user security.

The alert period will begin on April 16, 2026 at 17:30 and continue until July 16, 2026. During this time, the token’s status will be examined in detail, and a decision will be made on whether to continue trading support. The alert may be lifted, the period extended, or the token may be delisted entirely.

As part of the decision, deposit transactions for the SPURS token have also been temporarily suspended. Officials warned that deposits made after the specified date may not be reflected in user accounts and may be difficult to recover.

Upbit emphasized that it will continue to take steps to protect investors in line with its principles of regular auditing and transparency. Experts note that such warning decisions are generally aimed at increasing market discipline against high-risk assets.

China already has the compute to train its own Mythos-like AI: Nvidia CEO

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has warned that China already has the computing power and data center capacity necessary to train an AI model at the same level as Anthropic’s AI model Claude Mythos, which could threaten global cybersecurity.

Huang was asked in an interview on the Dwarkesh Patel podcast on Wednesday whether the Chinese government’s access to chips to train a model like Claude Mythos — which has cyberoffensive capabilities — could be a threat to US national security.

Mythos was trained on a “fairly mundane capacity,” Huang said.

“The amount of capacity and the type of compute it was trained on is abundantly available in China, so you just have to first realize that chips exist in China.”

Anthropic limited access to its new AI model in April after it identified thousands of software vulnerabilities across major operating systems and browsers, raising concerns about potential misuse in cyberattacks. A Chinese-made AI model with the same capability could wreak havoc if misused.

Huang said that the amount of compute China has is “enormous.”

“They have datacenters that are sitting completely empty, fully powered. You know, they have ghost cities, they have ghost datacenters too. They have so much infrastructure capacity. If they wanted to, they [could] just gang up more chips.”
