Deutsche Bank lifts Strategy stake to 785,000 shares despite value drop
Deutsche Bank AG, one of the world’s largest financial institutions, bought more Strategy Inc. stock (MSTR) during the first quarter of 2026. Those extra shares actually left the bank holding less money than before.

The German lender disclosed in a new SEC filing that it held 784,919 shares at the quarter’s end, up from 731,704 at the close of 2025. However, the holding’s value slipped to roughly $98 million from approximately $111 million as the Bitcoin-linked stock retreated over the same stretch.

In the US, many altcoin ETFs have been launched after Bitcoin and Ethereum. One of them is the highly anticipated $XRP ETF.

While the $XRP ETF has become one of the most popular altcoin ETFs besides BTC and ETH, another major bank has disclosed its $XRP ETF holdings.

Accordingly, UBS Group, one of the world’s largest asset management companies managing $7 trillion in assets, has disclosed its $XRP ETF holdings.

Swiss-based financial giant UBS announced its investment in $XRP in a 13F filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

This stands out as one of the most significant institutional investments in $XRP.

Instead of holding $XRP directly, the bank invested in the Volatility Shares $XRP ETF and the Grayscale $XRP Trust.

According to the announcement, UBS holds 197,369 shares in the Volatility Shares $XRP ETF and 317 shares in the Grayscale $XRP Trust.

For investors, UBS’s announcement of its $XRP investment can be seen as a signal of increasing institutional confidence in $XRP as an asset class. Furthermore, the preference of institutions for ETFs and mutual funds over direct investment underscores the importance of regulatory compliance for large institutions.

Furthermore, according to experts, the inclusion of $XRP products in the portfolio of a large bank like UBS invalidates the notion that $XRP is solely a retail-focused asset. This is seen as a significant endorsement from institutional investors.

The price snapped back to normal levels almost immediately, and no major exchange tracked by CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap showed any corresponding anomaly. Bitcoin was trading just above $79,000 during Asian afternoon hours on Friday. The incident appeared entirely isolated to Revolut’s platform.

S&P 500 call options volume surges to record $2.6 trillion. Here's what it means for bitcoin

The U.S. stock market is heating up in a way that suggests speculative mania. It matters to bitcoin as analysts have linked the cryptocurrency's recent rally to increased risk-taking on Wall Street.

The overheating signals come from options tied to the S&P 500. These are derivative contracts that let traders bet on or hedge against moves in the index. A call option is a bet that the index will rise above a certain price within a set time. A put option does the opposite, offering protection from declines in the index.

On Wednesday, U.S. equity derivative exchanges registered a notional volume of $2.6 trillion in S&P 500 call options, according to data tracked by Zero Hedge. That amounted to 60% of total S&P 500 options activity. To put it into context, the notional amount nearly matched the total crypto market valuation of $2.73 trillion, which represents the combined capitalization of thousands of cryptocurrencies, with bitcoin leading the way.

In essence, the majority of market participants were positioned for upside through calls or bullish exposure.

On the surface, the implication for bitcoin is straightforward: it is bullish. A speculative surge in the S&P 500 could spill over into crypto, driving valuations higher. After all, double-digit gains in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq since early April played a big role in lifting bitcoin to $80,000 from under $70,000 a few weeks ago.

QCP Capital put it best early this week when $BTC broke above $80,000: "After a solid April, $BTC has begun May on firm footing, breaking above $80k for the first time since January 31. The move appears aligned with equities, reinforcing a broader trend as $BTC's correlation with U.S. stocks climbing back toward 2023 levels, signaling a renewed linkage with risk assets broadly."

Several analysts lowered forecasts after the company missed expectations on revenue and adjusted EBITDA as trading activity slowed across the crypto market. Still, a number of firms argued Coinbase’s expanding stablecoin and derivatives businesses — along with the possible passage of crypto legislation in Washington — could improve the company’s outlook later this year.

JPMorgan said the quarter reflected “a challenging environment” but added that Coinbase had “positioned the company well to operate in an increasingly digital world.”

The bank said pending U.S. crypto legislation “does set up for a better outlook into 2H26 and into 2027” and maintained an overweight rating on the stock.

The legislation in focus is the CLARITY Act, a proposed market structure bill that would establish rules for how crypto assets are regulated in the U.S. The bill aims to define which digital assets fall under the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and which would be overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Coinbase and other crypto firms have argued clearer rules could encourage banks, asset managers and large companies to expand crypto activity.
