A new, unified stack for Base: What’s changing and why it matters
Base is transitioning from the OP Stack to a new, unified, Base-operated stack to gain greater control over its software lifecycle. This shift, occurring over the coming months, will centralize its code and releases into a single repository (base/base). Node operators must now follow Base's own, faster release schedule instead of Optimism's. While Base will continue collaborating with Optimism as an OP Enterprise client, the move aims to accelerate innovation, improve scaling, and strengthen security by reducing external dependencies. The change reflects a broader trend of maturing L2 networks seeking tighter operational control for more rapid and reliable upgrades.
