Ether ETFs mirrored this retreat, with approximately $258 million in redemptions following a period of modest growth.
This swift reversal suggests that the "January effect"—where investors often re-enter markets after year-end tax harvesting—was remarkably thin. Analysts suggest that the current pullback is an extension of a cautious trend established in late 2025. This sentiment was exacerbated by a $20 billion liquidation event in October 2024, which triggered a period of "controlled deleveraging" from which the market has yet to fully decouple.

Looking back at the trajectory of 2025, the market reached its zenith in July, with Bitcoin ETFs peaking at over $6 billion in monthly inflows and Ether products securing $5 billion. Since that mid-year high, the trend has been predominantly downward.
