1. Project Introduction
Neo is an open-source, community-driven blockchain platform that enables developers to digitize and manage assets through smart contracts. Neo offers robust built-in infrastructure, including decentralized storage, oracles, and a decentralized identity system, laying the foundation for the next generation of the internet.
Originally launched as Antshares in 2014 by Da Hongfei and Erik Zhang, the project was open-sourced on GitHub in 2015 and launched its mainnet in October 2016. In 2017, it was rebranded as Neo with the integration of Smart Contracts 2.0. In 2021, Neo underwent a significant upgrade to N3, which marked a full evolution of the platform. N3 introduced a one-stop development environment and native modules like oracles, decentralized identity, and more.
Neo employs a dual-token model to separate governance (NEO) from utility (GAS), allowing users to earn GAS tokens through holding NEO.
