1. Project Introduction
UMA (Universal Market Access) is an optimistic oracle protocol that enables fast and secure real-world data validation for smart contracts. It relies on two main components: the Optimistic Oracle (OO) and the Data Verification Mechanism (DVM). OO quickly delivers real-world data, which is assumed correct unless disputed. If challenged, the DVM kicks in, and UMA token holders vote on the data’s accuracy within 48 hours, ensuring trust and decentralization.

2. Team & Investment Info
Team:
Founded in 2018 by Hart Lambur, former Goldman Sachs trader and founder of Openfolio; Columbia University graduate.
CTO Matt Rice is a former Google engineer and led blockchain financial inclusion projects at One Daijo.
The project is developed by Risk Labs, which also created the Layer 2 cross-chain bridge Across, leveraging UMA’s oracle system.
Funding:
December 2018: $4M seed round led by Placeholder, with participation from Coinbase Ventures, Dragonfly, Blockchain Capital, and Bain Capital Ventures.
July 2021: Raised $2.6M via range token issuance, backed by Amber Group, BitDAO, Blockchain Capital, Robert Leshner, and Wintermute.
