The Ethereum Foundation has partnered with security organization SEAL to combat the growing threat of wallet drainer attacks. This alliance includes funding a dedicated security engineer within SEAL to track and disrupt malicious infrastructure, such as phishing sites and backend tools used to steal funds. The initiative, part of the Trillion Dollar Security effort, aims to improve threat detection and accelerate the distribution of real-time alerts to wallet providers. Although losses from drainer attacks decreased last year, attackers continue to evolve their methods, using trusted hosts and rapid tactics to avoid detection. The collaboration focuses on enhancing data sharing among wallets, researchers, and platforms to reduce response times and protect users more effectively.

Activity has been detected in a Bitcoin wallet linked to the ransom demand in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie. The activity, first noted since the ransom note was sent, occurred on February 6, shortly after the FBI released surveillance images of a person of interest. Details of the transaction remain undisclosed. Guthrie went missing on February 1 from her Arizona home after evidence of a struggle was found. A ransom note demanding millions in Bitcoin had been sent to media outlets, with two deadlines that have since passed. Officials have not confirmed whether the transaction is related to the kidnappers, the family, or law enforcement. The case reflects a broader trend of cryptocurrency-related kidnappings globally.

Wallet in Telegram has launched cross-chain deposits for its self-custodial TON Wallet, enabling over 100 million users to fund their wallets using cryptocurrencies from major blockchains without requiring bridges, swaps, or manual conversions. Powered by MoonPay, the integration allows users to deposit USDC or USDT from Ethereum, Solana, TRON, BSC, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Base, with automatic 1:1 conversion to USDT (TON). Soon, users will also be able to withdraw USDT (TON) to other chains and deposit BTC, ETH, and SOL—automatically converted to Toncoin. This simplifies onboarding into the TON ecosystem, reducing barriers to Web3 adoption by eliminating complex multi-step processes and minimizing conversion fees. The feature is natively integrated into Telegram, supporting DeFi, gaming, payments, and on-chain applications.

Heightened market volatility has kept Ethereum's price below $2,000, leading to a divergence in investor behavior. According to Santiment, high-tier holders (with at least 1,000 ETH) are selling, reducing their collective holdings to below 75% of the total supply after distributing about 1.5% since Christmas. Meanwhile, retail and low-tier investors (holding less than 1 ETH) are accumulating, pushing their collective stash to a record 2.3% of the supply. Mid-tier investors (1–1,000 ETH) are also buying, reaching over 23% ownership for the first time since July 2025.
