Resumo

In the past 24 hours, the price of Zcash surged 25%, reaching an 8-year high of $850. The privacy-focused cryptocurrency briefly hit $855, its highest level since 2018, continuing a weekly rally driven by Grayscale's efforts to convert its Zcash Trust into a spot ETF. This potential conversion would make it the first US ETF directly tracking ZEC's price. Over the week, ZEC gained over 71%, benefiting from a broader crypto market uptrend, with its market cap exceeding $14 billion, ranking it 12th among major cryptocurrencies. Derivative market activity spiked significantly, with ZEC futures volume surpassing $9.5 billion compared to $1.06 billion in spot trading. Despite the rally, ZEC remains approximately 75% below its all-time high of $3,191.93. The news follows similar altcoin ETF launches for assets like Solana and XRP, which saw net inflows of $28 million and $40 million respectively over the past week, while Bitcoin ETFs attracted around $2 billion.

Over the past 24 hours, the price of the cryptocurrency Zcash has increased by 22%, reaching $818.77 on Saturday. This continues the week-long rally, supported by Grayscale's efforts to convert its Zcash Trust into an exchange-traded fund.

According to CoinGecko, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency briefly rose to a resistance level of $855, marking its highest price since 2018. The market capitalization of $ZEC surpassed $14 billion, allowing the cryptocurrency to secure the 12th position among the largest cryptocurrencies.

The upward movement began even before Grayscale filed its fifth amended registration statement on Friday, September 21st. Boosted by the surge in Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies over the week, $ZEC has gained more than 71%.

Regarding Grayscale, the organization's amendment stated that the existing Grayscale Zcash Trust would be renamed The Zcash ETF, with an annual management fee set at 2.5%.

If approved, this conversion would make the Zcash ETF the first fund in the U.S. to directly track the price of $ZEC. Similar altcoin ETFs have been launched for Solana, $XRP, Litecoin, Doge, BNB, Hyperliquid, etc.

Capital inflows into these vary. For instance, the net inflow for the $XRP ETF over the past week was $40 million, and for the Solana ETF, $28 million, according to data from SoSoValue, while Bitcoin funds attracted approximately $2 billion in capital during the same period.

During the sharp price increase of $ZEC, derivatives markets showed heightened activity: according to Coinglass, the trading volume for $ZEC futures over the last 24 hours exceeded $9.5 billion, compared to $1.06 billion on spot exchanges. Open interest currently stands at $1.8 billion, equivalent to roughly 13% of $ZEC's market capitalization.

At its peak on Saturday, $ZEC had more than tripled from its June low, trading 35% above the pre-selloff level. However, $ZEC still remains approximately 75% below its all-time high of $3,191.93.

Fed Research: Crypto Investors Driven by Beliefs, Returns Change Their Decisions

A new working paper from the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland provides a novel explanation for cryptocurrency's divergence from traditional financial assets. It finds that American crypto investors are distinguished not by demographics or risk tolerance alone, but by their radically different beliefs about future returns. This divergence in expectations better explains who owns crypto than factors like age or income, a reversal of the pattern seen with stocks or bonds. The research, based on surveys of up to 25,000 US households, shows crypto owners expected an average 22% annual return, compared to just 7% for non-owners. A one-percentage-point increase in an individual's expected return was linked to a 0.8-point rise in ownership likelihood. A randomized experiment revealed that simply showing information about Bitcoin's past 12-month performance increased respondents' desired crypto portfolio share by about 47% and spurred subsequent purchases, primarily among those who previously felt uninformed. The study suggests this dynamic—where past gains attract new buyers, pushing prices higher and reinforcing bullish beliefs—could fuel speculative bubbles. It also indicates crypto wealth gains are treated more like "gambling winnings" than permanent income, boosting purchases of durable goods but not everyday spending. The broader conclusion is that crypto volatility stems partly from investor disagreement and learning, not just market fundamentals. With widespread misunderstanding and shifting expectations driven by performance data, price swings are likely to remain a defining feature of the asset class. Future retail demand may depend not just on Bitcoin's price, but on what information investors receive about its past performance.
