Ethereum developers have launched an initiative to fix a structural flaw that has caused billions in user losses, including the Bybit hack. Outdated DeFi infrastructure can remain vulnerable even after migrating to new architectures, as seen in the Huma Finance exploit.

Notably, Bitcoin [BTC] mining firm MARA posted hefty losses in Q1 2026, with most of that attributable to the crypto downturn.

Roaring Kitty hack drains $2.8M from tradersKeith Gill’s verified X account was apparently hacked on May 11, with bad actors using the Roaring Kitty profile to launch and dump a Solana meme coin.

Two posts appeared on Gill’s verified X account at around 21:13 UTC on May 11, ending a 16-month silence. The first shared a Pump.fun contract address for a Solana meme coin called Red Kitten Crew, ticker RKC. The second included a cartoon clip with the phrase “red bandit crew 4 life.” Both were deleted within an hour.

On-chain analyst StarPlatinum was among the first to flag the incident, posting that the account had been hacked and that over 80 wallets had extracted $2,864,364 during the brief rally.

RKC hit a market cap of $11 to $12 million within 20 minutes of the posts going live before collapsing sharply when the posts were removed.

How the dump played out
Blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain tracked the developer’s wallets and reported that the individual spent just 20 $SOL, worth approximately $1,950, across 10 wallets to acquire 395.18 million RKC tokens, equal to 39.52% of the total supply.

Those wallets then sold the entire position for 5,071 $SOL, worth approximately $495,000. The developer also collected an additional 1,209 $SOL, roughly $118,000, in Pump.fun creator fees.

Unverified community speculation, circulating on social media, has pointed to Kevin Gill, Keith’s brother, as a possible figure connected to the incident, after a livestream clip surfaced showing someone resembling him celebrating the launch. Neither Keith Gill, Kevin Gill, nor their representatives have publicly addressed the allegations, and no confirmed evidence has been presented.

Inflation leaves little room for disappointment
The Beijing summit is carrying more weight because the US macro backdrop has already narrowed Bitcoin’s margin for error.

This is because the April inflation data showed that price pressures remain too firm for markets to price in a more accommodative Federal Reserve path with confidence.

The Consumer Price Index rose 3.8% from a year earlier, while core inflation, which strips out food and energy, stood at 2.8%. Energy prices rose 17.9% annually, keeping headline inflation well above the Fed’s 2% target.

Producer prices added to the pressure. The Producer Price Index rose 6% from a year earlier in April, while the 1.4% monthly increase marked the largest gain since March 2022.The data reinforced concerns that companies are still facing cost pressures that could eventually be passed on to consumers.

The market response was immediate. US Treasury yields pushed higher, with the 10-year yield moving back toward 4.4%, while traders scaled back expectations for near-term Fed relief.

That repricing creates a more restrictive environment for speculative assets because higher yields increase the appeal of safer income-producing instruments.

Bitcoin has historically struggled when real yields rise. Unlike Treasuries, it does not offer a coupon.

Due to this, its appeal depends on expectations for price appreciation, monetary debasement hedges, and liquidity expansion.

So, when yields rise and inflation remains sticky, investors become less willing to pay for risk without stronger evidence of sustained demand.

That is why the China summit now sits at the center of the week’s Bitcoin setup. The market is not entering the meeting with inflation pressure elevated, yields rising, and traders already cutting exposure after the CPI print.

Proponents, including Coinbase and other major crypto industry players, argue the bill would support institutional adoption and foster innovation.

Michael Saylor, the Bitcoin evangelist who turned MicroStrategy into what is essentially a leveraged Bitcoin fund, has been vocal in his support. He views the Clarity Act as “institutional validation for BTC” and believes it could enable entirely new yield markets built around digital assets.

Why unions are pushing back
The letter to senators argues that the Clarity Act permits “outsized risks” in digital assets, risks that could ultimately destabilize the broader economy for working Americans.

The American Bankers Association has also expressed concern that the Clarity Act could undermine existing financial protections. When labor unions and banks agree on something, it’s worth paying attention. Those two groups occupy opposite corners of most policy fights.
