World Liberty Financial ($WLFI), a crypto project affiliated with U.S. President Donald Trump and his family, has delayed plans to sell a token linked to the construction of a resort in the Maldives, sources told Bloomberg. The token was scheduled for release in 2027. However, the project is now postponed, with the disruption of transportation in the region due to the U.S. war with Iran cited as the reason.
In February, World Liberty Financial revealed plans to tokenize investor income from the Trump International Hotel & Resort luxury complex in the Maldives. This is a luxury hotel complex developed by international developer DarGlobal in collaboration with Trump Organization. It is planned to have 100 villas upon opening in 2030.
$WLFI intended to offer investors the opportunity to earn income in the form of tokenized interest on loans derived from the hotel's revenue. It is now unclear when the token will launch.
It is reported that $WLFI is exploring tokenization not only in real estate but also in sectors such as oil and gas extraction. The company declined to comment on the token launch delay.
The native token of the World Liberty Financial crypto project did not react to the news. Over the past 24 hours, $WLFI has remained virtually unchanged in price. It is trading around $0.05, which is 88% below its all-time high recorded on its first day of listing on crypto exchanges, September 1, 2025.
The U.S. President and his sons have launched several projects in the cryptocurrency space, including memecoins, mining, and stablecoins. For 2025, Trump reported earning approximately $1.4 billion from crypto. However, public projects by his family have not yet shown positive financial results.
Mining company American Bitcoin reported a net loss of $57.2 million for the second quarter of 2026. Media company Trump Media and Technology Group incurred a loss of $238 million for the same period, largely linked to its activities in the cryptocurrency sector.
